The litter tray

Two young sibling cats - one is a pain in the bum (but luckily very cute!)

We have two kittens - well they are now about 7 months old so getting big!

The little boy is a chilled out thing, just ambles around, comes for cuddles and strokes, and is happy to sit on his own or go outside. He's just very relaxed. Eats when he is fed and doesn't beg for more.

The little girl, however, is nuts. We have to watch her all the time, she is into EVERYTHING. She's begs for food constantly, eats her brother's leftovers, tries to eat our big cat's leftovers too (which big cat gets really pissed off about), She is always up at the table trying to eat our meals, despite being told to get down, or physically placed back onto the floor - she is relentless.
The past couple of weeks she has discovered how to open the kitchen bin, we've often come downstairs in the morning to see the bin on it's side with rubbish everywhere. She wees wherever she wants too, despite knowing how to use the cat flap.

She has been spayed so can't see it being a hormonal issue, or is it?

She's little, so I'm wondering if she has worms? Though she and her brother have been wormed and had everything they need.
She just doesn't give up. If she isn't into food and bins, or weeing where she pleases, then she is usually up to no good somewhere else in the house. We have to put down lemon peel to try to deter her from weeing but it doesn't always work.
They also have a litter tray which is cleaned regularly - several times a day.

We have catnip and pet remedy, and we have also tried Feliway which chills her out for a bit, but she is soon back to her usual self.

Like I said, she is VERY cute, and we do love her wacky personality. She is brilliant, but it is tiring and wondering if it is some kind of toddler phase that will pass? Is that a thing?

Ah sweet!! Our 2 boys are similar! Your girl looks a right madam!! We used to splash ours if they went on the benches! (they 6 in April) and never go on at all. Do they have a litter tray each? some cats insist on it!!

Awww, they are lovely! I do love a tabby cat. Our big girl is a tabby too.

Well, when they both learnt how to go outside, we slowly took away the other two litter trays (they had one on each floor. The idea being not to have any litter trays eventually - not had one since big cat was a kitten and she's been fine!
Maybe we need to bring a litter tray back for a while longer

We had a huge cardboard box the first Xmas we had ours - so 8 months, and cut cat size holes in it - spent hours playing /ambushing each other!! Got a huge cat tree thing - floor to ceiling and only 1 scratches his claws on it!! Wilko do a scratch board we have hung on the bannister, was £4!!

I think you need the tray back, it's been freezing recently. I wouldn't want to wee outside either. She's trying to tell you something.

Waitrose ultra clumping is good at hiding smells etc.

Weeing where she pleases? That's often down to a UTI in cats so I'd get her checked out by a vet tbh.

Do They have separate litter trays, re. the wee, get her checked out for a uti and get her tummy checked out, she sounds hyper active, my friends cat had the cat version of adh, they are both lovely though.Wink

Ah good tip re UTI. Big cat is very susceptible to it and does the 'weeing where she pleases' thing, but she wees blood when she has it. Little girl is weeing normally, and it is quite clear. I just caught her weeing in the downstairs loo under the sink!

I will put one of the litter trays back, I didn't think cats were bothered about the cold and rain as the other two are always out in it and have no problem with going to the loo outside. I think she is just a bit of a diva!

retirednow funny you should say that, we have joked about her having ADHD. I had no idea it was an actual condition in cats!
They have always shared litter trays and never had a problem in doing so.

Ive just changed my litter to Sainsburys best it looks like the white Catsan. It was because they had run out of clumping and both mine seem to love it, are you givng her grain free food? I wonder if that woukd cakm her down? Mine used to go crazy after eating whiskers.

Our kitten took to seeing on the duvet. Once while I was in bed asleep. We have two litter boxes now. 1 downstairs by the food and 1 upstairs in the bathroom. They have different types of litter, I have 2 feliway diffusers and I use a catnip spray on the bed. No more issues and they only use the boxes when they are desperate or really cold/wet outside. We don’t have a catflap

Long shot but could it be the type of food you feed her? Or is she bored? Could you have intensive play sessions with her for a good 30 mins or so and see if it wears her out?

Agree the weeing thing could be a separate physical issue. If the Feliway seemed to work i would just have it plugged in all the time TBH!

As said before, I'd go back to offering a litter try. If this helps, then try and remove it in the spring when the weather is better and also she's built up more confidence in going out.

Some cats need more than the recommended amount on tins/packets so it might be worth offering her a bit more while she's growing. Has she got about the same amount of fat covering as your other kitten, or is she slimmer? If she constantly eats and starts to lose weight, then I'd get her checked out.
