The litter tray

SHE wants to pat ME!

One of my DCats is NOT a lap cat. She only really likes being scratched under the chin or round the ears however is a very affectionate soul and follows me and DP everywhere, and is very chatty. She also does lots of leg rubbing purring so we were just resigned that she's not a cuddler but is a happy one.

However she always does this weird thing when I am settled in bed or on the sofa, she climbs on my shoulder and head and does circuits between shoulders/back/chest and lots of headbumps, purring loudly. I generally try to pat her at this time but she goes away after a few minutes.

Last night I was freezing cold and very tired and couldn't face extracting my hands from the blanket, so just stayed still. She did her circuits, then settled down like a scarf and then proceeded to gently pat my face and hair, with her head under my chin. She appeared DELIGHTED by this and stayed like that for an entire episode of the Crown Grin

So I have established that I am actually her kitten, and she is lead-patter.

Does anyone else have a cat who likes to pat??

I have a cat that will gently poke my face with her paw when she wants to wake me up , usually when she thinks that breakfast is late and that the lazy staff doesn't deserve a little extra sleep, but I wouldn't call it patting really.

I think when they drape themselves on your neck or face it's mostly to steal body heat.

I used to have a cat that would dab at your toes or your nose when she wanted breakfast...

Yes. Mine pats me sometimes. And is obsessed with my hands so will search for them if they are under the duvet. She also shows affection by gently head butting us!

Yes my Lucy pats me and headbutts my nose when I settle down for the evening on the sofa, i love it.
She likes to lay on my legs but you CANNOT stroke her or she will hiss and run off.
You should stroke her no more than three times when you put her food down or she will hiss and run off.

She also pats the kids once they are asleep, she likes to check on them before bed.
Naturally she shows them nothing but indifference at all other times.

Dgirlcat pats my hand when she realises that I am serving up meals and I have inexplicably not given her some of our meat.

That's so cute ladygracie !

I get a specific "feed me" meow which the smaller cat has now learned Grin

She is currently somewhere in the christmas tree so I am being neglected. No pats this evening. It was very soothing and quite repetitive and she made happy chirpy noises and purred throughout.

Apparently the head-bumping has a special name: "Bunting" ! www.petful.com/behaviors/why-cats-bump-their-heads-against-you/

When I’m cooking, Ozzy comes and pats my leg, till I put a little bit of what I’m making in his bowl.

Mine tries to pat, but he forgets to retract his claws.... Shock. He does this when he wants you to pat him though, so maybe not technically patting?!

He also isn't a lap cat and hates being held. Sigh.... I soooo want a lap cat to cuddle.

Ollie likes to head bop me constantly, shove his head under my chin, sort of smear his mouth/nose against my face, lick my nose, clutch my finger with his paw... HmmGrin and put his paw on top of my hand. If I try to move my hand he gives me an injured look and presses down with his paw

Lucy is most definitely the boss! I wouldn't dare argue with her!
