The litter tray

My kitty is having an operation.

My poor old cat Bluebell has to go in and have her thyroid removed, she is massively hyperthyroid.
The vet thinks she has a good chance of living a good many years after even though she is quite old.
Thank goodness I kept the pet insurance going through my skint spell because the op is going to cost £600.
But at least it will stop the excessive litter tray using and diarrhoea, at last we have a diagnosis.

It is a good job you kept the insurance up. She'll feel so much better afterwards.

I know I really hope she gets a new lease of life. The old vet didn't diagnose her even after a whole year of expensive treatment and diets, went for a second opinion and the new vet diagnosed her the same day with a simple blood test.
The op is going ahead for January, she has to have a month of medication first to get her levels right.

She'll be OK, you'll see. I've had cats with hyperthyroidism, on medication most of their lives. It's no fun.

I've had quite a lot of cats that have had to have that op. They all sailed through it and it worked miracles. They were back to their old healthy, happy selves afterwards. It's better than medicating in most cases.

Mine had the op aged 16 and recovered very well. He lived for 2 years after that, the first year he was in excellent health but sadly after that his health began to fail (not directly linked to the thyroid problem though). Looking back I am relieved we went for the op as he hated the tablets and in fact had a very bad reaction to them (severe anaemia) so we couldn't have continued with tablets even if we'd wanted to. Good luck to Bluebell
