The litter tray

Medium to long term foster home for single, indoor-only, cat desperately needed - any ideas?

As my last appeal for kitten fosterers went quite well (all kittens have now either been homed or have a home lined up) I thought I might as well give this a go as we are a bit desperate.

The Celia Hammond Animal Trust have a friendly little, 2 year old approx, black and white girl who has tested positive for feline leukaemia.

As this is catching she is living in an isolation unit at our clinic all by herself. We need to find somewhere for her to go as she is miserable and she is taking up our valuable isolation unit.

Cats with feline leukaemia have a reduced life span and she will probably live another two to five years.

We need to find someone, who preferably lives in a flat or can manage to keep an indoor-only cat inside, and who doesn't have any other cats.

All veterinary costs will be covered by our clinic, but this means that anyone would need to be in a reasonable travelling distance of either our Canning Town or Lewisham clinics.

In reality though there probably won't be many trips to the vet required. She should continue to be well until one day when the illness kicks in and then it will just be a case of pts.

I doubt anyone on here will be able to take her themselves as anyone hanging out in The Litter Tray is likely to have cats already. However you may be able to think of someone you know who could possibly fit the bill.

Please pm to discuss further.

Thanks. Now I'm bumping my own thread. More in hope than expectation - I realise it's a huge long shot.

I've got a friend who might be able too. But she's in Nottingham, so too far away.

bumping for you. Good luck !

Well we would be prepared to home a very long way away Toddler. The only problem would be that they then wouldn't have access to our free vet treatment. But as it would likely be merely a case of pts then they wouldn't be faced with any huge vet bills so someone might consider it.

If I didn't have my two girls I would do it and sort the vets out my self. My friend wanted to foster, but Is hopefully going to adopt a cat from the RSPCA. Currently waiting for permission from her land lady, as they won't rehome the cat without written permission from the landlord as it's a rented flat. However the landlady is currently not replying and the RSPCA are reluctant to keep her reserved for more than a couple of days.

No, sorry I have two cats and practically everyone around us has a cat! :(

I have cats too, but am hoping this will be a useful bump

I potentially could after Christmas and am in Bromley area.

I have a (very well behaved and well adjusted) dog though, would that present any issues?

I don't have any other cats as my last cat was killed on a busy road and I said never again as it was too upsetting. But an indoor cat.... maybe?

I hope she finds a home soon poor thing, it's awful seeing them miserable. I've a multi cat household so can't, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that she finds a loving home for the rest of her days bless her.

Oh Loverofcake I hope you can take her on.
I've been mulling this over as we're currently catless but live in a ground floor flat with a cat flap in situ so I have to be practical.
Anyway bumping again.

@thecatneuterer Has the wee kitty found a home yet?

Report
thecatneuterer · 10/12/2017 23:48

Mona - I'm not sure. It would seem it depends on how she is with dogs. We are going to dog test her but are having trouble finding a suitable dog to use.

We also have another cat in our other isolation unit that needs a home - that one has corona virus. So two homes would be even better than one if you know of any possibilities.

Interestingly we are completely gridlocked at the moment with single cats that don't like other cats. These are the cats we are finding it hardest to home and they are 'bed blocking' us. So these are perfectly nice, friendly and healthy cats for both outdoor and indoor homes, but they must be only cats. Spread the word please folks.

hi thecat

Are any of your 'bedblocker' cats suitable for homes with dogs?

Report
thecatneuterer · 10/12/2017 23:57

catiin - yes I'm sure some of them are. Are you in London? If you're interested we would 'dog test' them with a similar sort of dog to yours if we can find one. And I'm sure some will have come from homes with dogs - we have so many of these cats some would have to be suitable.

@thecatneuterer I hope you don't mind me asking you this. You may not know the answer of course! But last week I popped in to CH in Lewisham to donate a load of food that DP ordered by mistake for our cat, and there was a woman dropping off her cat to be rehomed. He was a fluffy black and white boy with a black stripe down his nose and the owner was so distressed to be letting him go, it was awful 😿 Do you know if he has found a home? His name was Charlie.

@HeatedCatFurniture I'm afraid I've no idea. I'm with Canning Town, but even if it had happened in Canning Town I doubt I'd know. We have so many cats. I'd be surprised if he has come in and gone out again so quickly. Kittens often come in and go out reasonably quickly, but adults can take a very long time to find homes.

Are you interested in homing him? He's probably on our website by now, or you could call.

I couldn't unfortunately. Our girl loathes other cats with a white-hot passion.

Just a side note but when I was trying to adopt a cat from celia hammond I left countless messages am in the local area and no one ever got back to me.
No wonder they have so many cats that are missing out on potential good homes if they can't get back to you.
And they NEVER pick up the phone.

@thecatneuterer I'm in Kent but not far from London (my parents live in the SE)

I have three Jack Russels and they have been around my parents cats loads

catiinbo0ts I can certainly get them (and indeed any other of our single cats) tested to see how they are around that type of dog and get back to you.

user - I'm sorry you didn't hear back and I have no idea why that would be. We are terribly, terribly overstretched (a symptom of not having the resources to employ as many people as we'd like) and sometimes things slip through cracks as a result.
