Cat seems to be really sad after house move

We moved house a couple of months ago. Since then our 3 year old cat is really reluctant to go outside. Prior to this, he was very much an outdoor cat. He would be out most nights and return in the morning to sleep all day. Lucky thing!
Now, although he will stand and look out the door, he doesn’t want to go out at all. We kept him in for the first 10 days and then he went out for a short amount of time but was very cautious. Then he went out one evening and didn’t return until almost 24 hours later. This is unlike him but he seemed fine when he got back. But now he won’t go out and seems really sad. We don’t have a cat flap so only goes out when we are here.
Sorry for massive post! Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do? Thanks

I'd take him to the vet, it doesn't sound right

Do you suppose that sonething happened to him? Or do you think he's missing sonething from around your old house?

Our cat was very similar. Very hesistant to go out where before he’d spend more time out than in. It’s been over two years now and he has just started (over the summer) going out like he used to. He is in general quite a nervous cat and I think the change in environment really worried him, especially because in our old street he was top cat amongst all the others! Hopefully your boy won’t take as long as ours! I’m not sure what the answer is unfortunately, but thought I’d share as it may just be a time thing.

Our cats have been the same since we moved, they're slowly getting more confident. I think it takes them some time to establish a new territory.

Thanks for the replies. The vet did tell us about feliway and we had one when we moved although it has run out. I will get some more. I wondered if something happened that time he was out for ages. He didn’t seem to be injured in anyway.
Has anyone got any suggestions of good toys etc to keep him entertained in the meantime?

I'm not really too sure - is he usually a people cat?

Another poster on here said that feliway encouraged poos.

It's not that long since the move, you could try cat trees, catnip, toys etc.

I was so frightened about leaving exH and taking the cat but then when we moved she settled on my new bed, I opened the door to see how she was, and she was curled up and did a cat smile at me and I thought 'oh...you're ok'

I want to see him do a cat smileGrin Will get the fellow at and cat tree and hope he gets his confidence back in time.

He's quite young, it can sometimes actually take them a few years to settle especially with moves!

Are there any aggressive cats in the hood? You're probably fretting too much but it's easy to do, I know I do, you just want them to be happy.

Let us know how he goes :)

I had a cat that used to shit right next to the Feliway diffuser. Current cat crapped on the bed when it was in the bedroom, but has settled down now that I have moved it to the hall.
