Clever cats

our youngest cat now points her paw at the food cupboard when she wants a pouch. The family were sceptical but witnessed her tonight.

Tell me about your clever cats

Will sit on command for a treat, rolls over, up and down to furniture and taught himself to use the ( human) toilet if he doesn't want to go out.
Previous cats, not so bright!

Knows that "Do your paws." means "Have a good go on your scratchboard, we're about to go out for a walk."

Will fetch a "Mousie" when you say "Go get Mousie!" (if in 'Play Mood', if he isn't he looks at you like you're completely bonkers and flicks his tail in disgust).

Knows when I'm coming home 'cause he'll sit in the window and start meowing. Doesn't do it for anyone else .

He's completely crazy tbh.

I had a cat who told us when the washing machine was flooding - she kept running from the kitchen to the sitting room where we were watching telly and miaowing at us until we followed her to the kitchen and discovered the flood. She also acted very strangely, running around and yowling loudly just before we had an earthquake.

Current cat is really dim. He can’t jump and regularly falls off the bed. But he is gorgeous and we love him.

I wonder how on earth I could train mine to use the loo...hmm, research on youtube approaching.

She's quite bright but I haven't done any protracted training before.

She's asleep but I might stealth advance on her, snatch her and introduce her to the loo...

They work as a team, one climbing on the other, to pull down the handle and open the kitchen door. It's usually closed when I'm cooking something they'd love to get their paws all over.

I was impressed enough when I realised my cat knows her name! Some of these are very impressive!

I'd like to train her to use the toilet. She did flush it yesterday but not intentionally.

Madam BrokenCat hides under the furniture when she wants treats. When I first got her she was nervous and unintentionally had a bad experience, so I would tempt her out of hiding with treats...rod, own, back. Furry little feckers

I have hearing problems so don't always here if someone is knocking at the door - he will run to me and then run to the door and keep doing it till I follow him . I can't bend down so when he wants a cuddle he climbs on the settee so he is a better height for me to reach. Can recognise food/ treats and has to see/ select which one he has himself. If I open a different one he flips the dish over in a temper. Can recognise cars, and knows what time his most hated enemy (dog) goes past every day and makes sure he is at the door to shout abuse at her! He can switch my computer off - he did it in the middle of a conference call and was not popular. He signals with his paw when he wants the heating or fire turning on.
On the flip side he is a failure at hunting, chasing, jumping - always misses and is very uncoordinated.
He is a human rather than cat cat.

She knocks on the patio doors with the pad of her paw when she wants to come inside. If it's raining, she'll squeek her paws down the glass!

(She also runs to the kitchen door when you come home and open the front door, or runs past the wide open kitchen door to sit by the patio door and demand you open it for her. Swings and roundabouts).

Mine KNOW their names, they just choose to ignore me most of the time. I find it interesting that the only words they acknowledge are food related - supper time, breakfast, sweeties (Dreamies) and Stick (Webbox sticks).

Mine were to busy queuing up in the looks queue and didn’t bother to join the brains queue. They are gorgeous darlings, but are as thick as mince!

Can we talk about very big, very dumb but very lovely natured cats instead? I do have one clever one but my heart bleeds for the less than super dim one.

Mine looks a bit thick now. He knows my car engine, he can open doors & drawers.

Mine is dim and needy. He needs to be with me, and touching me at all times. He used to sleep on his blankie at the bottom of the bed, with his paw on my foot, but has decided that this is not close enough, so alternates between my head and sleeping on my back (I sleep on my front). DH tried to get him to move off the bed once. DCat jumped back on and pissed on DH.

My parent's cats knock on the patio door with their paws when they want to come in.

I have two cats, sisters from birth. The all black one is a smart yet cheeky one. She plays fetch with absolutely everything. She wakes me up in the morning with pens wanting me to throw them for her. She will wait till no one's looking to do something she knows she shouldn't e.g. tipping over bins. She'll also walk you to her bowl when she's hungry bless her.

The other one isn't all there she's the cuter looking one, and bit of an airhead. At 1 1/2 years old, she's still trying to find that other cat in the mirror haha. I've noticed she somehow recognises my husband approaching the house when there's no actual clear sign of him, she will run to the door and wait for him. And they both have their favourite parent! Together they're the perfect pair

I have countless examples with Bowie, my favourite was when I tried to get him to play with a laser pointer. He looked at the dot, looked at the pointer, reached up to touch the pointer then gave me a look of pity and walked away

He also recently learnt how to steal tuna out of a humane trap without setting it off, little bugger!

He's the most clever and gentle cat I've ever known. Mercury has moments of brilliance too but only when it comes to getting up to mischief!

My friends cat used to climb up brick wall to the 5th floor to get into her bedroom when she was at work. Happened for months and months and she assumed her roommate was letting the cat in each day when she came home from her night shift. Only realised when said roommate moved abroad and my friend had a day off - let the cat out at 7am as usual and then saw the cat come through the window as she watched telly

I am choosing to believe my cats are empathetic. They sleep on my knee or on the bed 1 at a time. Today I came home early, feeling really terrible, the doctor didn’t sign me off but got sent home cause too poorly to be any use. Climbed into a freezing bed and all three piled on top. It was great. Then the furriest one got under the covers and was a purring hot water bottle. They definitely wanted to make me better. I’ll hear nothing about the fact that a raging temperature and central heating not on made me basically an alternative radiator.

Not my cat. It when I was on holiday in Malta I kept seeing baskets being pulled up the sides of tall buildings and then lifted into appartments. Apparently people teach their cats to treat the baskets like mini lifts so the owners don't have to trek down several flights of stairs to let them in and out.
