My 2 year old cat likes to claw at the sofa. Shes neutered etc goes out but is in at night and mostly when im home. She claws at the sofa and ruining it. She has cat scratchers and toys and a massive activity center where she can scratch her claws in but prefers the sofa. I want to get a new sofa but not possible as she does this. Her claws are trimmed at the vet often so not that. I heard its more marking her scent. My other cat dont do it just her. I say no to her but ignores me lol...any tips please to get her to stop this

I have this issue with my 2 year old! Feliway didn't help but she has calmed down recently which I put down to her getting used to us (we've only had her 6 weeks) and starting to go outside again.

I recently visited a pet shop to get some spray which allegedly deters cats from scratching (it doesn't). The really helpful assistant suggested playing with her, teasing her with her favourite toy for a bit and giving her a food treat at the end. This apparently mimics the happy pheromones she currently gets from scratching. I tried it and it did seem to work but doesn't prevent it totally.

Elusiveone I've got the same problem with one of mine. I worried over buying a new sofa, even though she only scratches the armchairs and not the sofa. I've now got a new sofa and so far she's not been near it. I know this info isn't helpful to you! I find that mine scratches where I'm sitting, so I haven't sat on the new sofa yet! I've heard a theory that our little furries scratch to make things comfortable for usHmm

Thankyou everyone sorry for late reply and thankyou for the advice.

Want2beme thats a really good comment about when sitting on the sofa thats when she does it or if im doing stuff near the sofa she claws then. I never thought of that.

Haha impulse will try that for sure.
