For those who remember I have lost my darling Billy-Bob almost 7 weeks ago. He had fip. I have always loved Maine coon cats and I would love to get one next spring (unless I find another lost kitten). Would love to hear about Maine coon's owners.

One of my cats is half Maine coone and we nickname her therapy cat as she's so loving and daft.

I think Maine coones are meant to be intelligent but she really is thick as hell Grin. Beautiful fur and temperament though.

Lovely cats! Look for a breeder who is knowledgeable, has preferably screened his/ her cats for coronavirus ( far far more common among pedigree cats than moggies) and has no apparent history of heart disease (can be hereditary in the breed). Good luck in your search Smile. Look forward to pictures!

This is my Maine coon 'creamies' he is a gorgeous boy. He is admittedly a bit stupid but we all love him to bits. He chirrup rather than meows which is also very endearing Smile get one from a reputable breeder and you will love him/her for life.

I'm just settling in for the pics Grin. One day I am going to get a Maine Coon. They are huge gorgeous kitties! The closest thing to a real life LION in your house!

On the negative side ours hates being brushed except on top, so we have the mats shaved out a couple of times a year. Also ours is very much an outside cat. She was an inside cat, had ishoos, got rehomed (to us) on the understanding that she should be let out, and is now a HUGE fan of the great outdoors so we don't see that that much of her!

I have two, and one previously!
One is indeed the huge ginger one Obie,... the ungrateful git has just swanned in smelling of Thelma-down-the-road's perfume, stuffed his face and swanned off again! All fat 25 pounds of unfaithful magnificence !

He is also quite thick, frankly! He always scratches at the wrong back door to come in...

I also have his sister Ophie who is a cream and brown beautiful girl with the sweetest nature and the most talkative cat ever. She is a demanding lap cat and a delight. She is much smaller ..about 16 pounds but all fluff and with magnificent ears.

And the love of my life was Morph.. a 24 pound brown and stripe boy who slept every night with his paws round my neck and loved people in a way I have never seen before or since.

They are amazing cats. I don't think there is 'a' MC personality though..they are individuals. They need a lot of grooming and if they refuse (Obie!) they cost a fortune to get clippered twice a year and look ridiculous when it's done!

Get one Grin

Don’t think Gorgeous Obie can be that thick, he’s got several households wrapped around his enormous paw!

We have a maine coon cross, he is massive but a total softy, thick as a brick and a bit highly strung. Bless him. His name is Shock., he's 10. He doesn't have the fluff (his dad was an old ginger moggie who got his Maine coon mum in the family way by accident) but his fur is longer than your average short hair cat and it sticks to everything.

I have two step-cats that are Maine Coons (DP had them for five years before we moved in together). They're wonderful.

Currently one is curled up beside me and the other is lying behind me on the back of the sofa, both fast asleep. They're independent but very affectionate. Only downside is the amount of cat hair on everything.

We had a black Maine coon. He was a beauty. He had a wonderful character, he’d meow to answer back when he’d been told off. He also understood English. ‘Mhair’ meant yes. We were heartbroken when he died. I️ would heartily recommend them as a breed. Oh to have my time again with him.

Mine is a rescue. She’s the sweetest thing, super laid-back, totally bomb proof but a friend of mine has an incredibly highly strung Maine Coon that pees and poos everywhere when stressed. She gets stressed a lot.

This is Marcy, she's a cross according to the vet. Totally lovely, very affectionate and unbelievably lazy! She needed rehomed and we've had her for 3 months, we love having her :)

This is mine, gorgeous big lummox. My 3rd MC. If you’re in the north west I could recommend a breeder. They need to be screened for a lung/ heart issue - I can’t remember the name sorry. Mine have always been dog like in their love of being close to us, even getting in the bath

This is Oscar our 3 year old Maine Coon. He is a bit thick and got stuck up a tree last month and had to be rescued by a tree surgeon. He’s a terrific hunter though and catches (and eats) rabbits frequently. He’s another one who hates being brushed but we can usually cut the mats out ourselves. He’s very gentle (unless you’re a rabbit).
