Poorly Cat

Fatty Fatty cat pants is poorly and I have the fear and a horrible feeling that something is horribly wrong with her.

She went off her food on Thursday last week (she is normally a fat cat and eats everything in sight so is on a strict diet) and on Friday she ate only a few biscuits. Saturday she went to the vet who did bloods which all came back clear apart from slightly high red blood cells which vet said was probably because she was a bit dehydrated. She had also lost nearly 1kg in a few weeks (she has monthly weigh ins to check) Allowed to come home under instructions to bring back in if no improvement. She went back in yesterday and was put on a drip to get some fluids into her and given some pain meds and anti sickness meds. Allowed to come home again as vet said she might be more inclined to eat if she was at home. Ate 5gs of food but as i was watching her she was having trouble keeping the food in her mouth.

I am terrified that something really serious is wrong. She is going back in today for an ultrasound (i think, vet said scans so assume that's what he means).

She is 11 but we have only had her since January when we adopted her. Can you all keep your fingers crossed she is ok please. Off to work now and I can't check in with the vet until lunch time as not allowed phone on. Going to be a long day.

Sorry to hear that she's poorly. Has the vet checked her mouth? When I take my cats for their checkups, I ask the vet to check inside their mouths for loose teeth or other mouth related problems. Really hope she gets better soon.

She's gorgeous!

Paws crossed for a speedy return to good health. brew

We had a 'greedy' cat who couldn't be left alone with food in the same room for two seconds. He stole lots even though we were vigilant! He was a fab cat though ❤️ Current cat doesn't give two hoots for the kitchen and we can leave the door open - it's very odd confused

I had a cat like this last year, couldnt see anything wrong, but one day noticed a lump,at the side of her neck, it turned out to be a tumour and i had to put her to sleepas vet said she wouldnt last more than a few more days,
I hope this isnt the case with your lovely cat,
Otherwise has she had a thyroid test
My daughters cat had similiar symptoms, and turns out he has Hypothyroidism
Hope all goes well, and shes just a bit off colour, or maybe a tooth problem?

CantCat had something that sounds very similar. We bought him some ‘cat soups’ and he was able to eat those and is now fine. We thought he might have mouth ulcers - he was trying to pick up the food then dropping it again.
Vet did have a look and couldn’t see anything but he’s worked up by then and wasn’t overly keen to co-operate so it wasn’t hard to tell!

Hi. Sorry for not replying sooner. We had a family bereavement. Marmalade has had two ultrasounds, a endoscopy and numerous bloods and specialist is stumped. They are now thinking teeth that were removed last year before we got her were not done properly and may have left fragments which may be causing her pain. She is now booked in for a dental x-ray next week.

I am very glad we have pet insurance!

Thanks for all of your well wishes. She really is a lovely cat. Will update after next appointment.
