That's a whole bundle of trouble waiting to happen! Aah, what a little cherub.

So your workmate has let his/her cat have kittens? Unless there's a very good excuse (fostering a pregnant stray is the only one I can think of) then I don't think 'cute', I think 'fucking irresponsible'.

There’s always one.. Hmm

I agree that there are plenty of gorgeous cats in rescues that need good homes but you have no idea of the circumstances of how these kittens came to be.. there is no need to be so unpleasant.

No - the mother is a rescue.
He could have drowned them of course - like my great grand parents did with unwanted animals.
Or eaten them - they taste like rabbit (told by my dad - either that for him or starvation)

But of course you are right and mother is and kittens will be taken care of.

So he took in a pregnant rescue cat? Well that's great and of course no one is suggesting he should kill the kittens. I'm not sure where you got that from.

I just get upset by posts about cats having kittens (to be fair I see it more in Chat than in The Litter Tray) where everyone piles on to say how lovely and no one points out that letting a cat have kittens is 'a bad thing' and, if they do, they get shouted down.

I just think we need a change of perception. The default reaction to kittens shouldn't be 'how lovely' it should be 'how was that allowed to happen'. If we could only get that into general consciousness it would make such a difference. Rather like the way that drink driving or smoking while pregnant are now universally frowned on. People still do them of course, but no one is unaware that what they are doing is considered to be wrong by most people and I'm sure that has an impact on behaviour.

That's what I want but unfortunately I can't see it happening any time soon.

So sorry if my post was a bit abrasive (and of course kittens are gorgeous), but I hope you understand the intent behind it.

@thecatneuterer

Don't worry. There are far too many cats around than is good for their habitat, they're not part of a food chain and there are still people thinking a cat needs a litter before castration (arrgh).

But she's now clean, safe, vaccinated and will definitely have no more kittens.
