Our cat has been missing now for a few days. We are out looking every night. I just can't bear the thought of never seeing him again.

Oh no, it's so stressful isn't it? Flowers

It's still early days. Have you been going out calling frequently? Is he neutered?

Report
LavenderDoll · 03/10/2017 20:19

Yes neutered and chipped. He's a home boy - goes out but likes to potter round the house
He has never been out longer than 4 hours so 2 days is so unlike him
I feel so silly sitting here weeping but he is such a big part of the family

Keeping fingers crossed that he'll come home ASAP. Is it possible he could be in someone else's house? It has been known.

LavenderDoll · 03/10/2017 20:26

It was very windy/stormy the last time we saw him so I think maybe he has taken shelter somewhere
I might start knocking on doors
Poor boy - he's a rescue cat and had Such a rubbish start in life. I was meant to give him a happy and safe life and I feel like I've failed him

Fingers crossed for you that he comes back soon. So stressful.

If you're desperate I've read somewhere that putting your own urine outside your house somehow lures back lost cats. I have NO idea if this works - it sounds like balderdash to me, but if my cat was missing I'd probably give it a try just incase its genius.

I'm willing to try anything at this stage - thanks for the tip

I read sticking is litter tray out in the back garden could work, as he will smell it. Fingers crossed he comes home soon.

If he's a home boy he's likely to be very close to home but trapped or too scared to come out.

Definitely start knocking doors and ask neighbours if you can help them look as 1) you'll be more thorough 2) more chance he'll show himself to your voice. Check garages/ sheds/ any empty houses/ building sites.

Go out when late and dark, and call him then listen quietly - you may hear a faint meow. Also take a torch and check under hedges etc, his eyes will reflect back.

Don't give up hope. One of ours went missing for a few days and was only 3 doors up, trapped in a garage. We'd walked past calling her hundreds of times but she didn't respond until after a few days when she meowed back.

Over the summer a friends cat went missing (totally out of character) for over a week then turned up out the blue. I was out searching for him and looked thoroughly so god knows where he'd been.

Lastly I hate to say this but have you called the local vets and council just to check he hasn't been taken in/ collected by them?

If your cat uses a litter tray, leave it outside scoff the scent will carry on the wind. Same with the contents of your hover bag. Put notes through doors asking neighbors to check their sheds and garages. Post a picture on Facebook local pages and posters on lamp posts.

My cat, who is sadly no longer with us, went missing for a week last year. He came back smelling of petrol and looking scraggly. We think he'd been shut in someone's shed. It's worrying, but don't give up hope. Fingers crossed for you.

Cats protection league have a missing and found section on their website. Mine went missing for 2 weeks and I posted on lost and the lady who found him 12 miles away posted found so together we got him back home. Also post on lost cats on fb and posters in shops and notes through local doors.
He's chipped very good chance you'll get him back (((big hug))) they're our babies aren't they.

Have you checked all Your cupboards/wardrobes. I know it sounds daft but a few years ago i had a lil girl that went missing for a couple of days, we combed the neighbourhood only to finally find her in one of the walk in wardrobes in the attic room. I thought the mewing i was hearing was her trying to tell me where she was...... well technically she was, just a few feet from my bed!

Hope he comes back soon

Thank you for all the kind words. I'm going to be making leaflets today and going out again tonight knocking on doors and posting leaflets. I've left litter tray outside and also his favourite scratch pole .

Just caught this thread. Wanted to say that our cat went missing for 9 days a few years ago. He hardly ever wandered very far. He came back on Xmas eve, I think he must have been shut in somewhere. He was starving and didn't leave my side when he came back.
I hope your boy comes back soonFlowers

Aww OP, I'm so sorry.

Are there any outbuildings/sheds/garages around that he could have got himself shut in? I've known of cats who have wandered off and turned up again months later.
Are you in a busy town or a more rural location?

Report
LavenderDoll · 05/10/2017 22:15

No not busy town... a small housing estate next to a nature reserve. Have just got back in from looking again. I can't give up trying to find him as if feels like I'm giving up on him
I had to tell his foster mum today - she was lovely but I feel like I promised him a safe loving home and I've just let him down .
Sorry I'm a misery tonight
