The litter tray

Am I bad for not feeling an inch of guilt for putting them into a cattery?

I can't tell you the relief I felt taking them to the hotel today for only three nights (it's all I can afford!) yes it was a struggle getting them Into their carriers but once we got settled into the taxi they promptly fell asleep. When they woke up they were so excited. They said hi to the two fat Persians Buffy and Blue next door to them then they chased each other round the pen up and down the stairs. It wasnt even the luxury option but it does have bunk beds and is outside. I just feel like a weight has been lifted I really don't get on with cat sitters I've had no luck. I'm not even going away is that bad? If it helps the bath has fallen through the floor and I have no running water!! I know catteries arebtca popular choice on here but I really don't think my girls are badly affected going. Even the plumber said I shouldn't be moving them out of their environment! Does anyone else really like theirs?

I'm thinking of putting mine into a cattery during my kitchen refit in a month or so, I feel they'll be safer and not alarmed by all the noise. Tell your plumber to pull his judgey pants out his bum!

Can you imagine them getting under this? Its the only way they are too nosey. Have yours been before?

I've never felt guilty for putting my cat in the cattery. He's safe there and is always back to his normal self within a couple of hours of coming home. Plus, when it comes to holidays, I'm pretty sure he'd do a runner or a dirty protest if we got a pet sitter to come in to the house.

Sounds like they have settled in just fine. One of mine (long since deceased) managed to get herself nailed under the kitchen floor when I left my Dad to supervise an electrician running an extension to the garage, so I understand your concerns.....

My cats always go in a cattery, I've been using the same one for years and they're lovely and real cat lovers. The cats are in a big pen, warm, dry, and well fed. I have no guilt. Also no other option, I don't think it's fair for other people to have to constantly come and feed them if we're away tbh. Your moggies will be fine!

Oh my god that is a state! You've done the right thing - would be a nightmare if one got under the floor or something.

It wouldve been a nightmare if my bath had ended up in the middle of the shop downstairs! Im bloody dying for a wee.

Im not expecting any photos on facebook or anything but they do put them up for those that are there longer. Its really lovely £60 for three nights not too bad but bad enough ive sent their own food they will hardly notice.

I put my girls in a cattery for the first time this summer because of the health problems they’d had. They were fine and it was a lovely place. Super affectionate when they got home!. I would also put them in if I was having major work done to my house

Fatty was on the owners knee having her chin tickled within 48 hours. Took me 2 years to get to that!

We always use the cattery at our vets for Vinocat due to her needing insulin injections and the fact they know her and her history. In fact her vet popped back to do her evening insulin injection on Saturday (she lives a minute away) as she was there. They are great and take good care of her and she never seems too bothered by it, I would prefer it if the pens were bigger but it is our best option.
I think I would also be getting any cats out the house if my bath had gone through the ceiling too, they are blighters for going under floorboards!

They are booked in til Thursday but now the bath is back in i might just pick them up tomorrow night instead. Im not sure if it financially makes any difference as they seem to charge depending on what time you collect.

My cat really loves his cattery. He gets far too many Dreamies, masses of attention from the staff and visitors and there are chickens and birds to watch. He's always knackered when he gets home, sleeps for days.

Having said that my old cat used to hate going, she wasn't people orientated and was really miserable, so it's an individual thing.

Mine's being going since he was 6 months (is now 16). I got recommendations from the Feline Advisory Bureau and he is spoiled rotten.

I've done all their cleaning for them so I'll collect them tonight instead of morning. I heard the kitten scarpered into the next pen so they've had fun catching her. She's very quick.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I've just put my cat in a cattery for the first time (he's 6 and never been away from home!). We've moved house but can't move into our new place yet as needs lots of work done. We're planning on moving in 2 weeks, but when we do the kitchen still won't be done so there will be building stuff going on. Cat will have been in cattery for 3 weeks by that point. Is it kinder to leave him in cattery (potentially for up to 2 months) or to bring him home to a new house where there will be disruption? And will it make it better or worse for him if I go visit? I miss him so much!

If you have a "safe room" in your new place (like an upstairs bedroom) you could set that up for him so at least he's in the new house but away from any building work.

Yes ive had mine in the spare bedroom before with the litter tray and food. The longest ive done is two weeks but some of them are there for months.

My girl goes here when we go on holiday, I don't feel at all bad as it's run by the biggest mad cat lady I know (she runs it to fund the cat rescue she has), and the accommodation is better than where we usually stay!

Am I bad for not feeling an inch of guilt for putting them into a cattery?
