Cat wanting to be part of the family

A week ago I came home mid morning to find a large ginger cat in my lounge! She/he is incredibly friendly and has been hanging around (most of the day and night) ever since. Last night I got back at 11pm and it was outside desperate to come in, and when I got up at 7 it was still there. It climbs through my lounge window whenever I leave it open. It has been chased off by one of my cats many times but is persistently coming back.

I thought I might take it to the vet tomorrow to see if it is chipped in order to contact its owners. What if it is not? Could I take it in when my cats dislike it so much? How could I do this? My cats are 10 and 2 - the 10 year old is a very feisty madam....

See what happens at the vets. You do sound smitten though!

I would have thought that it has an owner and is just trying it's luck. We have 3 (!!) csts from various houses down the street who saunter into our kitchen quite regularly. Our own scaredy cat hides upstairs so they always get chased out. We've never fed or fussed them so god knows why they keep coming back!

It appears you now have 3 cats.

You have been chosen. That's all there is to it. Resistance is futile! Grin

If it's not chipped you could try putting some posters up locally, seeing if anyone has lost him. Otherwise you're buying cat food for three 😁

Eek I do really like him! Will check for chip and do posters. How do I get my older cat to accept him?

You could try a <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/GOODbehavior-Pheromone-Calming-Collar-Cat/dp/B0026JAKWG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1503308999&sr=8-1&keywords=pheromone%20collar%20cat&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">pheromone collar

My dad's cat went missing for a couple of hours in the middle of the day - finally tracked him down to a 6 yr old girls bedroom on the same street.... apparently he naps on her bed untill she gets in from school listens to her day has a belly rub then saunters home...

Bet he's just popped in for a visit

Cats often like having multiple homes, don't get too attached (if not too late....). Scan for chip. Also put paper collar on him with your phone number.

Thanks for the tip re multiple homes - know I will be disappointed now if he leaves us! My older cat still not cool with the situation..

This is how you get a cat, in my experience.

So he has a chip! But it is a long drawn out process to see where he is chipped to. Vets have asked to keep him until they have contacted all of the chip companies

he looks in really good condition....he is not lost!

maybe his real owners are on holiday and he hates the cat sitter?
maybe he is a six dinner sid?
maybe he just likes a wide and varied social life?
maybe he is new to the area and staking out his territory?

I'd not let the vets keep him....can you get a paper collar on him? That's probably more effective than them searching through microchip files that are probably not updated

Oh I thought the vets asked you to keep him. I wouldn't like leaving him do they charge for that?
