Good kitten food recommendations?

We are finally getting a kitten in a couple of weeks and I've been looking into various brands of cat/kitten food. From my understanding the likes of Felix/Whiskers aren't as good for cats as other brands.

What do people recommend? I've had a look on Zooplus but there seems to be a lot of choice. Obviously I'll have to wean dkitten gradually from what ever brand they are used to (and hope that he likes his new food). I just want the best for our pfc new addition to the family.

My kitten is a year old next week, I have fed him Royal Canin kitten biscuits and he has a tin of Applaws wet food each night. Both my cats love the Applaws food, it can work out quite expensive but Is often on offer at Pets at Home.

I agree there is so much choice, I'd advise you to go with as high a meat content food as you can afford.

Thanks for the reply! I've just checked out Applaws, I've also found that Orijen and Natures Menu have a pretty high meat content also. Decisions decisions....

I'd get some of the selection packs that zooplus do. Firstly because they are fussy creatures and you won't have too much of any one thing left over. And second because though they will eat one thing for a while some cats get bored and then you can have a steady rotation. Greenwood's, James Wellbeloved, and cosma are current high meat content hits here and are all cheaper than the Applaws.

Don't buy huge amounts of anything until you have determined they like it, cats are fickle! Some brands will send samples for free, worth checking the manufacturer websites, once you have identified a few candidate brands on Zooplus, Amazon, Pets at Home etc.

Some of the Applaws range is complimentary so make sure you get the complete one. All of those are good brands though. You should feed at least some wet food - cats who eat dry only are prone to urinary tract problems. Congrats on your kitten!

Thanks. Yeah I was thinking a mostly wet food diet with some dry would be a good combination. I've got a shortlist of both wet and dry brands to start with, thanks everyone!

When we got our kittens they had been eating Natures Menu wet food and Orijen dry food, so we continued giving that. They went off Natures Menu after a while, so they now have Lily's Kitchen instead, but they still have Orijen.

Look at the % meat content and whether it's grain-free.

In the end I decided to start with Animonda Carny wet food and Applaws dry food. Fingers crossed new kitten likes it.

From what I understand he has only been fed Tesco's own dry food so far. We collect him on Monday, can't wait to welcome him into our home

By the way pls dont make the mistake I made with my kitten and give him kitten milk - he vomited on and off for two days, so I took him to the vet and was really REALLY told off. Its a marketing ploy and is NOT to be given as its far too rich and the vet said they just do not need this stuff!
