The litter tray

My cat hasn't come home

My lovely cat is nowhere to be found this morning. He's pretty much a house cat so very unlike him. Her a total wimp as well. I had a baby 3 weeks ago so haven't been giving him the attention he's been used to.

I'm distraught and wracked with guilt. Please could I have a hand hold?

When did you last see him? Don't give up hope yet!

Mine went missing for 8 days recently.

Could he be stuck in the shed/garage? Have you called him loudly and chucked some smelly wet food around the garden for him to follow home? Also scattering his litter/putting his blanket out is good for him to follow his scent.

What kind of cat is he?

troodiedoo · 26/04/2017 12:21

Last night, I know that's not long but it's really not like him. Have called him loudly yes. Good idea with the litter and blanket will put those outside. Will go for a walk later and ask neighbors. I know logically he'll be somewhere warm but my hormones are all over the place!

Oh troodie I hope he is home soon

Reow · 26/04/2017 12:27

Aw bless him. If he doesn't go far is he older - does he know his way around?

Hopefully food and his blanket will help him find his way by smell. If you have neighbours with sheds or garages it might be worth giving them a knock too.

Do you have a local Facebook page where you could post asking people to keep an eye out?

I understand, I was a wreck when mine was missing.

troodiedoo · 26/04/2017 13:21

Thanks :) he's 11 and we've lived here nearly 3 years. But he doesn't go far. He will only go in the garden usually if one of us is out there too. Daft cat.

As well as putting out the cat litter and cat blanket, it is advised to put things out that give the smell of gis home:

Leave out an unwashed item of your clothing – socks are a good idea – or better still hang an unwashed bed-sheet on your line – the scent will help orientate the cat especially if he or she is missing in an area he isn’t familiar with.

Put the contents of your vacuum cleaner bag on your garden – it’s full of smells that the cat will recognise and if doesn’t bring the cat directly to your door will at least hopefully keep him/her in the area. Alternatively if you have a litter tray that the cat has used put some of the used litter on the garden as this will have familiar smells in it.

I got a text from my dad this morning saying that their cat hadn't been seen for 24 hours. He sauntered in looking completely un repentant at 9.15. Hope yours reappears soon.

troodiedoo · 26/04/2017 17:33

Aha forgot about the hoover bag thing, thanks I will do that.

Toddlerteaplease wouldn't put it past him to stroll in later to teach me a lesson. It's just the not knowing that's agony. Thanks for all your replies I will try and stay positive.

No sign yet OP?

Petlog have a great lost and found FB page. Have you called round the local vets in case someone hands him in thinking he's missing?

outnumbered4 · 26/04/2017 19:55

My little boy went missing for 2 days and nights last week I was beside myself... he reappeared hungry and dishevelled! We think he was trapped somewhere, definitely ask your neighbours to check their sheds and garages. He will probably stroll back in as if he was never away, try not to worry I know it's hard Flowers

troodiedoo · 26/04/2017 20:09

No still no sign :( have posted on all the local Facebook groups and pet patroller. Will give the vets a ring tomorrow thanks. Nice to hear positive stories of cats coming home.

Is it sunny today where you are? Could he have found a warm, quiet spot? It's so scary when they do this Sad. Try shaking his bed, or whatever he sleeps on, out in the area that he usually comes in and out.

troodiedoo · 26/04/2017 20:55

I last saw him 9pm last night and he wasn't in at 5 this morning when dh went to work. It was quite cold last night as well, although it's been nice today. I just hope he's somewhere safe and warm and not hurt somewhere :(

Oh dear! He's gorgeous and looks very much like my own cat. Isn't it cute when they do that little 'ham tongue' sticky outy thing?
I so hope he doesn't keep you waiting too much longer...marking my place to wait with you...It's awful when they disappear!

Reow · 26/04/2017 21:37

Mine was stuck in a tree for 8 days. RSPCA and fire brigade had to come get him down.

Check all trees! We checked everywhere but, and that's where the bugger was!

Keep us posted OP. It's awful. Can you have a big glass of wine?

troodiedoo · 26/04/2017 21:39

Thanks hawleybits. Hehe he does it a lot. Usually pointing a camera at him makes him pop it back in. Really hoping he'll be there waiting in the morning.

Thanks for all the support its really helped.

We had a similar panic a few months ago. Found the missing cat happily hiding in a cupboard in the utility room! Not sure if she was trapped or just lazy... Fingers crossed yours finds his way back soon

troodiedoo · 27/04/2017 17:01

Thanks Reow there are a lot of big trees nearby so have been looking with binoculars!

No sign of him today but I feel better having leafleted the nearby streets and registered him missing with cats protection and local vets. Fingers crossed.

Will be having a large vino when dh gets in from work :)

Just wondering whether there's any news? I'm guessing not yet?

VerySadInside · 27/04/2017 23:38

Mine once got locked in neighbours house when they went away for a long weekend. They were very suprised to find her when they came home. She must have been drinking from their fishtank!

Have a good knock around the neighbours and ask them to check sheds, garages and outdoor storage. It's that time of year people are getting gardens sorted or putting toys/furniture out.

troodiedoo · 28/04/2017 03:51

No news yet. He went missing between 9pm and 5am so thinking it's unlikely he's in a shed or garage but you never know. I have asked the neighbours to check. I will post on here as soon as he's found. Flowers

You found him down the road?! What was he doing - just taking his time and enjoying the view? What a little bugger.

So glad he's back with you. Have a lovely weekend with him.
