Weird things your cats eat

I have two cats. One is normal and likes meat, cat food, that kind of thing.
The other will eat anything. She likes meat & cat food, but also loves bread. Any sort of bread, she is not fussy. She also eats raw pastry, cooked pastry, any vegetable, and porridge oats (raw or cooked, she doesn't care). My kitchen is locked up tighter than Fort Knox as she will steal stuff if she can.
Do your cats eat odd stuff? Please tell me, it will make me feel less weirded out about mine :)

We used to have a cat that ate everything. Bolognaise was a particular favourite. These two won't eat anything human. Although Snorg seems to have developed a sense of smell and likes sniffing around my plate. She's just discovered baked beans. Fatty likes plastic and paper. Had to chase her around the house once to extract a strip of plastic from her mouth!

sealtears · 25/04/2017 10:10

Cobwebs.... her absolute favourite. As odd as this is, I am not complaining. Saves me a job and in fact I actively encourage her quirks Grin

thetemptationofchocolate · 25/04/2017 10:14

Ooh Toddler I used to have one who liked plastic :)

Seal I like it when mine poke about behind the furniture as they bring all the cobwebs out with them, but I have never seen them eating any. That is very unusual!

My Cyril, who sadly had to be PTS on Saturday, loved boiled sprouts. I had to cook them for him specially.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 25/04/2017 10:27

where to start?

Cat1 would steal mushrooms to eat, he'd break through the clingfilm to get to them, daddylonglegs, he just really liked the thrill of stealing mind you.
Cat2 chili, curry but no rice, he'd spit that right back into his bowl. Sweetcorn, cabbage, this one once ate every last chilli from a plant i was growing, and he would go crazy for melon
Cat3 ...most normal, but would beg and beg and beg for a prawn if you had anything, just the one and he'd be happy
On to current cats
Faerie is a normal cat, odd bits of meat, catfood, maybe a dab of cream. Her secret vice is flies, she looks all smugh and happy when she catches one, and crams it into her dainty little face with both paws... but her brother is a whole other phenomenon
He seeks out the mushrooms that grow in the lawn...and comes in smacked off his face, he loves raw/frozen/cooked peas and broad beans and the pods they came in, he has been seen stealing them from the plants.
Bean juice from a tin of baked beans, or those in water...he'll get in the sink to drink the drips if he can
It's embarrassing to have guests over as he will seek out "the weakest link" and poke them in the back of the head until they comply with his request for whatever morsel he requires from their plate, most will proffer a nice dainty bit of meat, but NO...he wants the veg, or maybe a piece of yorkshire pudding.
You also have to be wary about putting down drinks, he is often found face down in my Earl Grey, or coffee...I mostly drink it black too.

Cyril. I always meant to video his sprout eating but never got round to it. Sadly it's too late now

Ah, they did post. Just ignore me.

Teddy6767 · 25/04/2017 10:33

My cat likes to eat his own fluff (he's long haired so if a clump malts then he'll eat it)

He also likes earwax. I was cleaning my ears with a cotton bud once and he started going absolutely crazy trying to eat the bud. I once put my ear plugs on the side of my bed and he tried to eat those too.

Other weird things he like are marshmallows, dominoes potato wedges and weetabix Grin

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 25/04/2017 10:34

Our 2 dcats eat vegetables every night.
Carrots, Peas, cabbage or broccoli. Cauliflower and sprouts too!!

thecatneuterer · 25/04/2017 10:46

ear wax! Now that is grim.

Teddy6767 · 25/04/2017 10:49

Haha it's very strange! I googled it and apparently it's fairly common. There's a chemical in the ear wax that cats love the smell of Confused

sealtears · 25/04/2017 11:17

Temptation , you need to teach your cat there's no point pulling out cobwebs without clearing up afterwards Wink
Teddy earwax definitely wins... That's properly grim!

Reow · 25/04/2017 11:20

My cat loves a nice crispy prawn cracker or poppadom

Eatingcheeseontoast · 25/04/2017 11:27

I had a cat who loved M&S chicken tikka massala. I mean really loved it. But only M&S. He'd only get to lick out the bowl but - there'd be a paw waving up trying to snaffle bits. He pretty much slept the rest of the time so it was nice to see him get excited about something.

Current cat acts like you are trying to poison him if you give him human food - really affronted - unless it's cheese. He loves the cheese.

I've been known to make a kitty plate of scraps and morsels from mine and others' plates ('you don't want that do you - I'm sure kitty would lurve it - look at the poor thing she's starving') while the owner sits and glares at me and murmurs about how kitty is greedy (unkind and obviously not true) and the vet has used the word overweight more than once (defamation) and how she will sick it up on the carpet later (who has a carpet with cats?).

Germgirl · 25/04/2017 11:54

PicklePig loves crisps. Well, any savoury snack really, Frazzles are a particular favourite. He also loves to try to eat nail buffers, those foamy blocks that have varying grades of sandpaper on the sides, he attacks and dismembers those whenever I forget and leave one within reach. He never ever destroys it even plays with anything else but he adores a nail buffer. I've so far managed to stop him eating the bits he chews off as I don't think it'd be very good for him.

cozietoesie · 25/04/2017 11:57

Cyril was wonderful. Smile

fuzzywuzzy · 25/04/2017 12:11

Older boys like raw mince, once left mince on the worktop to defrost, returned to find it eaten in a neat little circle.

Our mad female kitten likes to eat plastic and hair! If she finds hair anyone's, bit of cat hair/human hair, guaranteed she will be trying to eat it! I've pulled hair out of her mouth when we first saw her do it, we need to ensure all bins where we dispose of hair from brushes is secure and she can't get at it!

Boy kitten thinks fluff is tasty, he's managed to scratch the foot of the bed and I regularly find him nibbling at the stuffing that's sticking out now, he also loves to try and eat the lambswool mattress topper!

thetemptationofchocolate · 25/04/2017 12:13

I think we need a Cyril fanclub, he was clearly a real character :)

Thank you, all, you have made me feel much less freaked out by my cat :)

thecatneuterer sorry about your lovely Cyril Flowers
My old boy has been known to eat an entire bird, feathers and all. It's quite something and a bit grim as well as sad.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/04/2017 12:18

Forgot tea. Fatty loves to drink the dregs.(decaf of course) from the amount of milk I have in it I'm assuming she's not lactose intolerant!

My little monster likes plastic too. Especially DH's cigarette filters. She steals them but then gives herself away by doing a sudden mad dash trying to get her contraband away before she is noticed. I have found them in her litter tray more than once and am regularly found sprinting around the house after her. Little bugger has learnt that I can't get under the bed.
She is not happy since dh quit smoking last month.
I woke up to find a half chewed sausage in the middle of the living room this morning. I have no idea how she got it. I would swear that I put the left overs in the fridge.

Germgirl · 25/04/2017 12:33

Cyril was very handsome. RIP Cyril.
