We've adopted a kitten!

So today this beautiful little girl came to join our family. We are totally in love!

A couple of questions if you don't mind as we've never had a kitten before, our existing cat was an adult rescue.

We are told she's 9 weeks old but she looks TINY and I'm worried she may be younger, what age do their eyes normally change colour? Hers are still blue but not bright kitten blue you can see they are changing.

Also she's very very fluffy. Could she possibly be longhaired? Her mother was shorthaired so I didn't think she could be but a few people have commented that she's really fluffy. Is it just kitten fluff as I assumed?

And finally she needs a name so we can't stop calling her kitten. We like real names, pretty and girly, but can't think of any! Our existing cat is Lola and we've previously had a Mia if that gives an idea as to the type we like. Can't decide what she looks like although her personality is leaning me towards naming her minx!

I got 2 litter mates and one is short haired and the other has longer hair. It will depend who the father was too as to fur length. She is very cute.

These are mine at 8 weeks

They are beautiful! I don't think she looks as fluffy as your longhaired one so maybe she is shorthaired. I don't care either way anyway was just curious.

I'd guess that she's going to be long-haired. Those toe floofs........Smile

Aww such a cute kitten!
I vote for PansyGrin

no idea about age; last time I had a kitten I was 10!
We are always sensible and choose adult rescues as our hairy babies.

She could be younger.kittens eyes usually start changing from blue at six weeks so I would put her at 7/8 weeks from the pics
I would say she could be fluffy or semi long hair but unlikely to be long hair completely. I would suggest kitten milk small amounts to supplement diet if young. What does she weight?out vets vaccinate with 1st vacc at about 8/9 weeks or when they reach 1kg. Vacc aren't suitable for younger than this. Would call her Luna!

She's gorgeous! She looks semi-long haired to me. I had a lovely black and white girl who wasn't exactly long haired but more fluffy. My gingers on the other hand are really long haired. Here's a photo of my fluffy girl and long haired boy. You can see the difference. What about Saffy or Kizzy as a name?

Difficult to tell. Old girl wasn't especially fluffy as a kitten, but definite long hair as an adult. Big blobby boy isn't exactly long hair, more wall to wall flood.
How about Zsa Zsa?

Ok I've just weighed her and she weighs 512 grams. That's a lot smaller than she should be. We were told her date of birth and that she is 9 weeks old.

I don't know what he looked like as a kitten as he's a rescue, but would love to imagine it was a bit like this but with ears!

She's very sweet Smile, she appears fit and well and you said she's lively, so hopefully OK. She might be a bit younger or maybe just a naturally tiny cat like old girl. She always looked kittenish, even at 20!

Oh she's gorgeous!
Think Luna is a great name suggestion but that's because my brain went -> grey > Meredith Grey (Taylor Swift's cat) -> Ellen Pompeo -> Luna in the Bad Blood video.

She's adorable. Has she been made welcome by resident puss?

Lotty, Dotty, Twinkle, Fifi, Fanny, Lu Lu, Marigold, Lettice (love this name!), Pixie -I'm getting carried away now!

I'm liking Luna so far.

Resident cat isn't too impressed at the moment, she's sniffed her and walked away looking annoyed. No fighting or anything though she's just sulking so I'm sure she will come round.

She has lived with other cats successfully before but we lost her companion to ill health 2 years ago sadly.

A sniff and walking away in a sulk is not ....unpositive, I reckon. Smile

No I was quite pleased with that really as it was better than expected. I've ordered feliway plug in's that will arrive tomorrow (she was a surprise addition so ony ordered today) so hopefully that will help with creating harmony also. I'm going with short and frequent introductions so far and swapping scents lot.

Oh she is lovely! She will look tiny compared to your older cat. We got our second cat when he was 14 weeks old, he was DEFINITELY that age, his eyes were still bluey coloured. If she is playful and lively I wouldn't worry too much Smile. She's definitely not a short haired cat. Her tummy is too fuzzy for a start Grin. I'm going with fluffy.

Weeds I love how your old girl has positioned herself on the plate. Very dainty. Big boy is looking as handsome as ever there Smile.

I'm starting to think she's a kitten x parrot as she's spent most of the time sat on my shoulder!

She very active and playful and eating and drinking well so I think she's probably just small and I'm not used to how small they are at this age.

Aw she loves her mum!
Now I think about it, my best mate's cat was probably that size and now she's full grown, she's still tiny.

Secondcat loved shoulders. Be warned - when he became older and bigger, he'd take a running jump at you until he'd positioned himself 'just so'. It led to some very bemused workers around the house - we used to warn them but I don't think they quite believed us. (He was unusually sociable for a Siamese.)

So it may well last then, I'll look forward to it!

I can already see that tonight I am getting NO sleep! She cried when we went to bed and I felt sorry for her so she's up in my room with me. Which means she's attacking my feet and trying to fall asleep on my face at the moment. The things we do for them!
