Why do you love cats?

I love that they aren't needy but still need you. I love the slow blink 'kisses' they give you. The way they just come and sit with you in the garden. Their beautiful eyes. The range of chirrups and strange noises they make. They make me feel calm and when I play with them I really enjoy it (more than I enjoyed playing with dc when they were younger ) the way they roll around in front of the fire, exposing their furry 'trousers'. That's my ode to cats. What's yours?

Because they are beautiful, soppy and quite thick. They have adorable little habits, like waiting outside the bathroom and escorting me to the bedroom. They've made me less lonely and I love coming back to them after a 12 hour shift. I also love it when they snuggle up with me on a cold night. Mine are both rescues. But I think they rescued me.

Because they stretch out on my lap and put a paw on my arm.
Because the girl cat has a special hello mrrrrow.
Because they snuggle uo next to you when you're poorly.

I love my cats - they are so quirky. Just sat and watched one eat a whole portion of garden peas that ds left!!
They bother eat broccoli, carrots and cauliflower!!
And mice.

Both of my most recent cats are rescue but one was 'difficult' - prickly, stubborn, quirky. A total misanthrope. She reminds me of me! But now she loves me Purrs and kneads when I pick her up. Lies on my lap and stares up at me. Then ignores me and looks at me like I'm a piece of shit on her delicate paddy paw .

Because mine follows me around the house because I am her "friend". She sleeps next to DH and I but only stretches out her little paw to me as she sleeps.
Because when she's scared she runs to me and snuggles up with utmost trust that I'll look after her

I often ask myself that question. I think I love them because they're very honest and don't bother with the frills, there's nothing flowery about them and they get straight to the point. I love the way they move, the way they look at you with utter disdain and have no problem doing so. I love the way they make you feel grateful for any amount of attention they show you, it's very amusing. I love the noises they make and the feel of their fur. So many reasons, really.

I had a bad experience with a rescue cat last Summer, long story and not a happy ending unfortunately. I now have two rescues who remind me every day of how lucky I am to have them. They're always there to greet me when I come home. They have just discovered the joys of a sunny garden and love to follow me around outside. Girl cat does little chirrups that warm my heart. Bot cat has to be in the mood but is capable of great affection. He is a true softy and has never once bitten or scratched us. Oh, and girl cat makes me laugh so much when she drags her feather toy into her tunnel. They're not lap cats but they're loving.
They have brought joy and companionship into my life after a sad episode.

I've always lived with cats and had a beloved cat of my own as soon as I could. She was the best cat ever, she absolutely adored humans and she'd sit on my lap with her paws on my shoulders cuddling. I had her for 12 years and it completely broke my heart when she died. I still haven't been able to talk about it with my DH (she was pts, it was very traumatic). It took many years to be ready to get another cat and we now have two. They are so different from Belovedcat and from each other. But they follow me round the house and garden 'talking' to me, I love that the littlest is just happy to snuggle with us. The big cat doesn't do snuggles, except just once, she climbed up on my lap for about 10 minutes, it was magical because it was so rare and unexpected!

Oh and I love the way one of them walks round the house sounding like a heard of elephants.

I never liked them but seem to be followed constantly by them and it wore me down enough so I adopted some pathetic FIV/cat flu ridden cat
Who once he had his paws under the table turned out to have neither but is a neurotic weirdo who insists on being everything a cat isn't meant to be
He doesn't hunt, doesn't play with other cats, doesn't ever bite or scratch. He wants bone crushing hugs numerous times a day and loves nothing better than "I blinks at MY human"

Because they just have such quirky personalities and they're so much fun to watch having a mental half hour. Because they follow you around the house day and night. Big cat likes to be wherever I am, I'm her mummy! Because they're so soft and warm to snuggle with. There's nothing quite like cat snuggles. Because they make perfect pets for children.
And probably because they're very clean, don't bark or slobber and don't need daily walking.

Because they just don't give a toss, they don't come when called, they stand at the door waiting to go out (in spite of having a cat flap) then bugger off / stand half in and half out when you open the door; demand food then refuse to eat it; try to kill me by getting underfoot then look mortally wounded if I bump them.

They are contrary buggers basically.

But when they hear the key in the lock they run down the stairs to greet me, they insist on sleeping on my feet at night, they miaow at the window when I pull on the drive if I don't come straight in.

I put up with the fact that they are sociopaths as they throw me the odd crumb of affection from time to time.

What a great thread! Every cat I've had even a part share in has brought smiles - but lately as newly single with chronic illness she is my companion, she chats and chirrups, snuggles and generally rearranges the house to her liking. She is the giver of headbumps and noserubs and sits on and occasionally next to me whenever I stop for longer than 5 minutes. I love her loads and - do cats love humans? - I think it's reciprocal.

Everything in your OP and more My old boy is grumpy and awkward, rarely lets me touch him (been with me from a tiny kitten and only ever been treated with total love, it's just the way he is) and spends much of his life trying to trip me up or moaning that he hasn't been fed in the last half hour but he's so beautiful I would forgive him anything.

We also have 12 month old girl cat, she arrived 6 months ago and has added a whole new dimension to our feline servitude. She's gorgeous and naughty and incredibly noisy, both vocally and in terms of 'herd of elephants upstairs' type noise but I find something new to love about her every day. She has the most amazing stripey grey trousers and a tail we think she stole from a raccoon, she is DD's best friend in all the world and has convinced our old boy he is, in fact, still a kitten rather than 13 years old by engaging him in games of kiss chase around the house. I don't understand anyone who doesn't love cats, they are perfection in a fur coat.

Every day, when I get home from work, they escort me in. This includes meowing continually at me and flopping down on the driveway in a 'rub my tummy' motion.

They are connoisseurs of comfort.

One of them likes to head butt me. The other adores my dd in such an adorable way. They speak to each other.
