My little boy who was only nine months old took ill on Sunday. Turned out he had FIP and I made the decision this evening to have him put to sleep sad I can't believe it.

He was a rescue kitten found starving at the side of the road next to his dead mother, he's had such a short life. He was the most gorgeous, loving, happy little cat and he's gone sad

I'm so sorry for your loss, how heartbreaking flowers

I am sure the short time he had with you was the best time of his life. You couldn't have done anymore for him. I am really sorry for your loss.

Fluffycloudland77 Tue 21-Mar-17 19:27:35

That's awful, you did what you could & fip would've made him very poorly in the end.

It was the right thing to do for him. flowers

Thanks. I spent some time reading up on the condition which I've never heard of until today, the prognosis was very poor so I didn't want to prolong things for him. I'm trying to console myself with the fact he had a lovely life with me and he didn't suffer too much but it's all happened so quickly.

All his toys are lying round the living room and I keep expecting him to walk in.

He was such a unique, mischievous little animal.

So sorry sad Really unfair that he had such a short life but I bet it was a good one. You gave him so much love & happiness xx

Icequeen01 Tue 21-Mar-17 19:57:51

I'm so very sorry to hear this. I remember your previous posts about your gorgeous boy and I think you posted a photo you took shortly after you got him which was heartbreaking to see.

We can all see how much you cared for him and what a good life you gave him. He was able to experience what it felt like to be a much loved pet, albeit for a short time, something he would never have had without you.

bigtapdancingpimp Tue 21-Mar-17 20:08:56

Yes Icequeen he was like a skinned rat when he was found last summer. Such a shame he had that fighting spirit only for this to happen to him.

Thank you all for your lovely words - I have two other girls giving me cuddles which is giving me consolation even though they hated him hmm Time for a big glass of wine

Vinorosso74 Tue 21-Mar-17 20:09:01

I'm so sorry for your loss. As other posters have said, he was lucky to have found you and I'm sure his time with you was the best of his life flowers

Snooks1971 Tue 21-Mar-17 20:55:55

What a beautiful, handsome boy. Understand and feel your pain, have been there before so many times flowers and wine
You are kind and caring - he had the best time with you X

SuperFlyHigh Tue 21-Mar-17 20:57:41

So sorry for your loss and pain. Be happy and proud that you gave him a home and cared and loved him for those 9 months, and that he was happy with you and your family and other cats flowers

bigtapdancingpimp Tue 21-Mar-17 20:58:44

Thanks all, just feel drained and shocked. I'm not in the UK and the veterinary advice here can be inconsistent so I didn't really know what to believe today. Fortunately the vet speaks perfect English and explained the condition in great detail so I could make an informed choice.

I'm so so sorry for your loss... I had to have one of my fosters pts three weeks ago...same story, found as a very sick kitten with his two siblings, starving, semi sighted due to eye infection with cat flu and a bad heart condition.. He developed seizures and despite meds I couldn't get them under control. Vet decided he had FIP which was causing all his problems and he was becoming v sick v quickly. It was very hard but now I take comfort in the fact that he was loved and cared for and we gave him a good if short life. I know it was the right decision and it will have been for your perish one too. What I find hard now is the anger I feel at the irresponsible person who didn't neuter/ protect his Mum, he and his siblings didn't stand a chance.
Thinking of you with understanding and sending you hugs

Potentialmadcatlady Tue 21-Mar-17 21:12:26

Sorry spell check, precious one not perish

Puffinsareblackandwhite Tue 21-Mar-17 21:20:34

I remember the photos too - the one where he confesses his crime made me smile! flowers, you did a lovely thing for him!

Toddlerteaplease Tue 21-Mar-17 21:24:57

Very sorry. I remember laughing out loud when I saw the sign about hiding the £50flowers

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard Tue 21-Mar-17 21:30:58

flowers I'm so sorry. Hopefully you'll soon be smiling over his life well lived and kudos to you for taking the difficult decision to have him sleep in peace rather than suffer. It's a very hard thing to do.

bigtapdancingpimp Tue 21-Mar-17 21:40:58

Yes he was a little bugger and a proper 'Simon's Cat'. He would steal anything not nailed down including my dad's credit card.

Potential sorry about your foster baby, how heartbreaking x

Potentialmadcatlady Tue 21-Mar-17 22:51:38

Funny big tap my boy was like that too..a massive character and very quirky..it's almost as if our boys knew that they had to squeeze a lot of life into a short time...we made them happy and they knew they were loved X
