So our 10 yo rescue cat who we have had for a month needs to lose some weight. She is 6kgs at the mo and the vet would like her to lose another 1kg, (she lost some in the shelter). She is on Proplan light but i can tell she doesn't really like it very much. She has 30gs and then a wet pouch at night. Vet has said ideally she should be on an all dry diet but i'm not overly keen on stopping the wet as she isn't a massive drinker.

So what i'm asking is if there are any nicer light foods that i could try. I did give her some Applaws which i had and she loved it so maybe something similar?

Thanks

From what I've read dry foods are more likely to cause weight gain due to the higher carbohydrate content whereas wet foods tend to have more protein and water. And again if they eat all dry foods they need to be taking lots of water too. I give a mix of wet and dry to my 2 kittens. One eats very little of the dry food so needs the wet food or they wouldn't eat much at all.

Mine is a big drinker though.

If you google how best to reduce cat weight they all suggest using wet cat food rather than dry as it is less calorific and has fewer carbohydrates and more meat
