The litter tray

cat(s) weeing everywhere

I have 2 boy cats, not sure if it's one or both of them doing this as they don't do it when I'm watching them.

Both boys are 5 months old, indoor cats, trained to use a litter tray since before they came to us at 8 weeks old. Not neutered yet.

One or both of them keeps weeing on the floor. Never poo, that all goes in the litter tray. Litter tray gets changed 3 times a day and if I notice poo in it, so 3-4 times a day on average. I'm wondering if I should change it more often or if he/they are marking their territory and trying to attract girl cats but then aren't they a bit young for that?

Have you neutered them?

And no at 5 months they are not too young

There are two potential issues here:

if he/they are marking their territory and trying to attract girl cats

Yes - this is more than probable at 5 months. I would get them neutered as soon as you can.

Secondly, if you only have one litter tray, this might be contributing to the problem - the recommended ratio is 1 per cat plus 1; if you don't have room for this I think you should try to fit in 2 at least. They can be very territorial over litter trays, and reluctant to pee where they've pooed (which they can still smell even after the tray has been changed).

Hope this is helpful!

(Do you have a picture of them by any chance Grin)

Thankyou, I never knew about the litter tray thing. I'll get another 2 litter trays at the weekend and phone the vets about neutering on Monday.

Photos of them both, the day we got them and now. The black one (Hiro) is a bit shy so couldn't get a decent one of him. The black and white one (Uther) likes to sit in that old ice cream tub, it can't be comfortable though!

They're beautiful! I love the names you've chosen for them too. Hiro reminds me of my black cat when he was that age. It's funny how cats like to sit in random boxes (but totally ignore a cat bed if you buy one for them).

they are so beautiful! Good luck with stopping the weeing, we have had regular problems for years, so if anyone knows anything to suggest in adult indoor cats, I'd like to hear bout it! I think its only our boy that does it, but have never been able to persuade him not to.

(But he's worth it Grin)

Have you had the vet check for a urine infection user?
