The litter tray

Think it's time.

My lovely old girl cat is nearly 18. She has been the loveliest, most laid back cat since I found her as a tiny abandoned kitten.

She had a sticky eye between Christmas and New Year so we took her to the vets and were given eye drops. The vet gave her an once over and told us that she was in fairly good shape for such an old girl.

The last 2 days she has gone down hill so quickly, she isn't eating at all and will only drink if you take her to her water. She is sleeping pretty much constantly now. She is wobbly on her poor legs and hasn't used the litter tray overnight.

I've booked her into the vets for this evening, my OH wants to be there when we go. We both had a few tears this morning, she has been the sweetest little thing and we don't want her to suffer.

I'm doing the right thing, I know that. So why does it hurt so much? My poor little girl, we hoped that she would last until the summer. She is the most solar powered cat I have ever known, we wanted her to go in her sleep lying in the greenhouse in the sun.

Thank you Mallory Cat for being such a delight and joy. We will miss you and your funny little miaow.

Flowers it is so so hard, and there's nothing anyone can say to make it any better. But take comfort from the fact you're doing something so selfless and putting her needs before your own. Biggest act of love you can carry out x

Oh my lovely of course it hurts. You don't want to let her go. Even though it's the right thing to do. Thinking of you. Flowers

Oh I'm so sorry! She's done well. My cat was the same (although slightly younger) it was so sad to see her struggling. You're definitely doing the right thing. It's horrible for you but the best thing for her.

I'm so sorry Flowers but what a wonderful life your cat has had. 18 years with owners who have loved and adored her. She'll pass peacefully with you there and that's lovely.

as the owner of 3 cats, I send you love and strength Flowers

We had to do this in May this year for our cat. Same symptoms. It's hard, isn't it?

Taking her to the vet was a difficult and sad thing to do but it was the kindest thing, too. You've obviously given Mallorycat a lovely life.
Flowers for you.

I found her in the street as a tiny little scrap of a kitten. I took her home, put an advert in the local shops but no one ever claimed her so she stayed. She loves the sun and being warm, she used to follow us to the chip shop up the road and sit outside waiting for us to come out! She used to love eating whatever we had, chicken chow mein was a favourite as was steak pie from the chippy.

She is a tiny little thing still, she is a tabby with the prettiest facial markings. She has a knack of finding clean laundry for a snooze regardless of where you have put it. She loves people and will make them fuss her! She used to sit on the drive and shout at people going past until they spoke to her, she hasn't done that for months.

The night I found her in the street, my OH held her in the palm of his hand and told her that it was going to be OK. He is going to do the same tonight, she has been loved and protected for nearly 18 years. We will love and protect her until the end. Then we will bring her home and bury her in her garden where she will be safe and remembered.

Bloody pets, I'm in pieces. Sad

I'm really sorry to bring this up now, but it might help if you have something ready to put over her as you bury her. I didn't have anything ready, it was pretty tough and hard to think clearly. My mum found some tissue paper and we wrapped her in it (she was also a tiny tabby). It helped. A bit.

I hadn't thought of that, I will put an old jumper into the cat basket and we can wrap it around her afterwards. That way she is warm and snuggly for one last time.
