The litter tray

Cat has been missing since yesterday morning

I'm really worried about her. She was last seen by my DH very early yesterday morning around 5.30am. We have knocked on all the neighbours doors and handed out flyers. Rung the vets who have made a note and said I can drop a poster in tomorrow. I'm not on Facebook but a local colleague has posted it on there for me. Put it on Animal Search UK - no idea if this is any good it just came up in a google search. Any other ideas? She must be really hungry and scaredSad

Is she chipped? You can alert the chip company. Phone ALL the local vets with a description.

Can you join fb to keep bumping her?.

Thanks fluffy yes she is chipped, good idea I'll get onto them. Its the first time in my life I wish I was on Facebook! Yes I will join if no luck soon.

Ask neighbour's a few doors down either side from you & across the road if you can call her from their back gardens to see if she hears you any better (could be locked in a shed or stuck up a tree). I found my car this way.. up a neighbour's tree. You never know.. it could be worth a shot for you too

Up a tree mistyShock** how did your get her down? I didn't think of that. Neighbours diagonally behind us have a long garden and he let us go and have a look but it was getting dark, we shone a torch and called but no luck. I will go back tomorrow in the light and have a good luck. Our immediate neighbours have been lovely and I know they'll keep an eye out. Have just reported it to the microchip company too. Just feel helpless. Wish she'd come home.

Try asking the postman & milkman to look out for her if you have regular ones. Also put some used litter, a cat blanket and/or the hoover bag contents outside, they give the scent of home for her to follow. Good luck I think quite a few cats have gone for a stroll recently with the weather turning mild. Hopefully she'll be home soon. Social media can be very helpful, well worth joining even temporarily (my local area has a very active facebook page for cat owners & it acts as a very effective lost-cat-finding service, they really do look out everywhere for cats who are missing)

Ring all the local shelters and vets with description and microchip details. I really hope she turns up soon, its agonising. On the plus side all of my cats have done this at least once, and with the exception of one, they all returned. One was gone for 2_weeks. All the best.

Has she got a collar on?

Flowers for you. But there is definitely hope: my cat came home after over 6 weeks away, he seems to have been living rough and then one day just wandered into someone's house and they called my number from his collar. Six weeks! There is hope.

We got lots of calls too from the posters. Put them at bus stops, in local shops, community centres. And post pictures on any local Facebook groups - people were so helpful on there.

Thanks Kwazy, will put more posters up today. Several people have said she might have been stolen as she is such a pretty cat, the thought of that breaks my heart as she was a rescue and this was meant to be her forever homeSad Its the not knowing that I am struggling with. 6 weeks is amazing, I don't know how you stayed strong for that long. Thanks for your reply it means a lot.

I understand how helpless and worrying it is when they go missing, the not knowing is bloody awful. I really hope she returns to the fold soon PosieFlowers

Posie I know how you are feeling it truly is the worst feeling in the world the not knowing.

Please don't give up hope & keep looking apparently cats are usually found fairly close to home. Mine went missing & turned up at my partners house (where she has lived before) almost 6 weeks later. It was only about a mile or two away through fields. I will never cease to be amazed at cats ability to fend for themselves.
Think they go into survival mode?!
Have you checked with all the local rescue centres too? Put posters up everywhere & keep going round doors if you have neighbours & ask to check sheds garages outbuildings etc.
Go outside & call her but do it at different times esp try very early on morning or later when it's quieter.
I thought the worst also thought she was stolen but I think that's rare? I hope she'll be safely home to you soon Flowers

I read somewhere that you should have a conversation outside so they can hear your voice (not just you calling them in a worried voice). I didn't get chance to try it as mine came home, but it might be worth a shot?

Have you tried your local Streetlife?

Report
BellMcEnd · 10/12/2016 12:53

Oh how awful for you. Yes to previous posters saying put her (used) cat litter out if she has a tray plus any blankets etc that she sleeps on. Scent is a very powerful locator for cats.

Keep calling her and check with your neighbours both on your road and parallel roads.

Best of luck x

Thanks so much everyone. I will definitely try all of your suggestions. Have put her blanket outside, great idea. Haven't heard of Streetlife I will have a look now. Going to call round to the neighbours again in a bit while still light as some were out when we called in the week. So helpful to come and read all these positive helpful posts, some people have been very doom and gloom which quite frankly doesn't help my state of mind right now!
Will update if any news.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Don't give up hope, there have been quite a few posts on here recently where missing cats have come home. One of mine years ago went missing for 5 days. When she came back she had paint on her and we think she got trapped in someone's shed. Im keeping everything crossed for you.

Thank you Icequeen that means a lot. So hard to accept she's gone when I don't know what's happened to her. I have registered her details on every forum and website I can think of. Just have to wait now.

Sorry she's not back yet Posie

When my cat went missing I had 3 or so days of frantic searching, being busy, putting up posters etc & then there was nothing else I could do, nothing was bringing him back, everything went flat & it was very hard. I cried a lot that day. Very fortunately my cat returned soon afterwards but I'm not sure what I would have done if he hadn't. It is so horrible waiting and not knowing. There are cats on here who have returned after weeks or even months so please don't give up hope.
