The litter tray

Cat suddenly not wanting the food she's been eating for 6 years

We have had her since 2010. We have always laughed because the only food she will touch is Felix As Good as it Looks and only in fishy varieties.

This week she has started to sniff the food then leave it and miaow for food. I tried two FAGAIL pouches in a row, both rejected.

Obviously v concerned I dashed off to the pet shop and got a variety of other pouches/trays. She ate three of the foil tray Shebas. One after the other. Hmm So nothing wrong with her eating. Plus she's her usual self.

I wonder whether Felix have tinkered with the recipe?

She's exercising inalienable rights, I suspect. Grin It usually coincides with owners buying in 'special offer' large quantities.

Did you try her on Sheba meat varieties?

PS - but yes. They might have tinkered with the recipe. They do it for human foods so I see no reason why not for pets. Have you compared quantities etc on the back of the pouches/boxes?

Mmmm, I was eyeing up a 44 pack of the Felix only yesterday but fortunately didn't get it. Grin

I have only bought fishy varieties so far but this could be time to try and introduce meaty ones. And cheaper brands maybe. Wink

My cat jumps out of the window and disappears for a week if we buy whiskers. He likes the supermarket own brands will do felix at a push

I would be guessing ('guessing') that Felix might meet consumer resistance about raising prices so - if they're feeling any strain - might well consider changing the constituents of a particular food instead.

Check the labels. Smile

I could have written this thread only it's both of our cats suddenly turning their noses up at the dried food they've been eating for years. And I have just opened a new big bag of it too Angry

One of ours will only eat Felix as good as it looks, and not the fish ones. This week he has refused the Felix.

Is the Sheba softer/less chunky by any chance?

I'm just thinking because this sounds like my dog last year, only it turned out he had a rotten tooth. We had no idea until the vet spotted it at a general check-up.

If her teeth are fine and the recipe hasn't changed, she's probably just become a fussy fucker Grin

I will try and get a look at her teeth. I do usually mush all of her food up with a fork but could be significant.

The Felix is literally just getting sniffed and rejected on smell at the moment.

She has just wolfed down one of those teeny tiny tins of Gourmet Gold something or other.

DH wonders if she is getting fed something fantastic elsewhere which could also be a possibility.

I will try and check the Felix ingredients too.

Hmm....there might be something in the new recipe theory. My admittedly fussy puss will only lick the jelly stuff of Felix recently and leaves all the meaty bits behind?

YY there was a bit of that going on earlier in the week Why. Licking but not enthusing and eating it.

Maybe if you have dogs as pets, you have a slightly different view. (My dogs - with the exception of peas, which were always left behind in dog food with added vegetables Grin - just used to 'Whomf, Whomf, Whomf........dish lick and rattle.) The cats are more finicky and would notice changes more quickly.

OMG I genuinely thought it was just my dog who won't touch peas?! Shock

Even on a Sunday when he gets all the meat scraps from the roast, we find peas in the bottom of his bowl, which have been licked clean and shiny Grin

Hah! We used to be the same. Shiny licked bowl with a pea or two sitting in the bottom. Smile

Dogs seem to eat literally anything. Puppy even nicked a cat food pouch Hmm
Ollie ate that cat soup stuff then refused it. This week he inhaled a pouch of it. So I bought 5 (on offer) and now it's "minging human, no eat it" Confused
Basically he wants whatever I don't have in the cupboard

I could not believe how little there was in those soup pouches. And for so much money.

They're actually like a - very very skimpy - watery cat food. Seniorboy has eventually eaten them all, after a judicious blast or two in the microwave, but at that price??.......

I have a Bengal kitten now 6 months old who will eat NOTHING other thank like the juice of sachets of Schesir kitten food which is horribly expensive plus Maine Coon cat biscuits. No raw meat, cheese, fish, treats, Nothing! Drives me potty

Not so good. I'd better leave the comments to some of the Bengal owners on the board, though.
