Two cats and I am totally and utterly sick to the back teeth of God damn biting shitting, jumping, munching, bastard, twatting FLEAS!!!!

I have had animals all my life of one type or another so I am well use to sodding fleas...HOWEVER, this year the little gits seem to be happily pinging around in biblical proportions. I have even found them pissing around in my daughters hair!!!!!!!! (This is honestly the first time ever I have found this. It is astonishing although obviously believable, I just haven't come across this before in all the years of encountering fleas)
Flea traps - No
Flea collars - Ok for a while
Flea treatment - Hit and miss
Salting the carpet - Dunno yet...supposed to dry up eggs...?
Hoovering the carpet - ffs!
I even resorted to putting a few drops of Olbus oil on the carpet because apparently the fucking fleas don't like Eucalyptus? Anyway, it seems to have MAYBE calmed down a little except that now the living room smells like an old mans pocket.
Please, please, PLEASE does anyone have any tips or tricks that aren't inmediately obvious given that I know the little fuckers are unscrupulous freeloading greedy lodgers that I'm finding so hard to kick out. Also they have tiny arses...maybe I need to buy a little boot to kick them with?

Anyway. HELP! please

Bugger! In hair?! Shock
What are you using on cats and in the home?

Report
SoupDragon · 08/10/2016 12:08

Spray your house with Indorex
Use Advocate.

I still remember arriving home from holiday to fleamageddon. We have not had a problem since!

Yeah!! In her hair!!!! I thought initially she was scratching because of fucking nits but no sign of them just bastard FLEAS! Maybe they scare off the nits?! Grin

Ooo never heard of Indorex, will have a look around for that. I can get that in the UK I assume? Thanks
I have used B. Martin and such on the cats, doesn't really work very well unfortunately. I refuse to use any more of the B Martin spray because you literally need one bottle to cover one square foot of carpet pfft. At 3/4 quid it's deffo a nope

Bob Martin is shite.
Advocate works very well for us, in fact our new girl has successfully eradicated a flea infestation left behind by our old cat! She is treated monthly with advocate and has also had a Program injection which means that any female biting fleas are left infertile.
Indorex or Acclaim spray everywhere, pay attention to cracks between walls and carpets, also edges of sofas etc.
Hot wash and hot tumble dry for everything you can.
The spray does not kill the chrysalis stage of the life cycle so in 2 weeks or so after spraying you will find small fleas hatching. More hoovering followed by more spraying and hot washing.
If you catch any you can drown them in soapy water, very satisfying!
Good luck.

Indorex everything and hoover constantly and everywhere. Wash everything that can be washed and use Advocate on the cats to turn them into walking flea killing machines.

Advocate on cats
Indorex in the house - order two cans you'll need it!
Wash everything you can on a 60 cycle.
Get a flea comb- apart from being really therapeutic it helps keep an eye on the situation. Best fiver I spent!

I'm just the other side of 'oh my Christ, there are fleas!!' and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that's it!

Advocate on the cats.
Indforex on all soft furnishings.
Wilkos flea powder on all carpets for a day, repeated weekly for at least three weeks.

When we moved house the new house was covered in them, they are awful.
We tried everything, council, Indorex, smoke bombs etc etc
The only thing we found worked was Acclaim, we got cheaper through amazon, its pretty expensive and needed 3 cans in total but did the job after months of hassle!

Yy to Advocate and Indorex. Prescription flea testaments can be costly compared to shop bought stuff, but there is a huge difference in effectiveness.
FWIW, going forward I'd avoid Bob Martin altogether as some cats can have a nas

Bob Martins is bloody dangerous, should be banned. Have a quick google on the problems and side effects, very scary!

I know the good stuff from the vets vosts more but there's a reason for that - it doesn't kill cats but does kill fleas.

Well I just rang the vet in desperation as I pulled out another flea lat night and 2 this morning! He said apply Advocate again even though I only did it a week and a half ago and instead of applying in one big spot apply in 3 or 4 spots around the base of the skull.

Cat was NOT happy and has eaten his food and pissed off in disgust😁

You need prescription strength flea control from the vets, the over the counter stuff was never going to work.

Cheers everyone, some very good information there.

Because the fleas were seemingly biting us more than the cats and pinging around on the bed, carpet, couch, clothes...fuck, wouldn't be surprised if I walked in and found one sat cross legged on the couch flicking through the channels asking for a brew Hmm I snapped and panicked looking for anybloodything that might work!!

I will try Advocate.
Have to just keep in mind that they can't live on us lot alone (thank fuck) and I have to keep on top of it.

I combed Sphinx last night, he loved it and I loved drowing the little tossers (FLEAS OBVS) in fairy liquid and water. I need to get hold of nipples (sorry doesn't have a name really but she's previously had kittens and the nips are on show a lot) and keep combing. I use that nitty gritty comb which also means I can see their fat arses stuck in the metal teeth which is also satisfying.

Sphinx you are so funny.
I really can relate to all of your posts. They are utter bastards! I also used the nitty gritty comb it was so satisfying drowning them, but sometimes they would hop off before I could Shock
Im thinking of starting my own flea circus.

We're just getting over a flea infestation that started in July. The vet treated them and we bought the RIP fleas spray for the house. It didn't work and we then had the house treated by pest control a couple of days before we went on holiday. We came back two weeks later and my DH and DD were literally eaten alive as we walked in the house. It was terrible. Pest control have been here three times and finally, over three months later, no one has been bitten for at least a week. It takes ages and has been depressing and embarrassing.

Maudlinmaud Wink I was going to put a flea and a nit in a bottle and see if they would fight til the death... I realise I probably should not be left alone for too long, I need to get a life or...or I don't know. It was a thought I had and I stand by it.

Hahaha!! RIP flea spray??!! Sorry that made me laugh. I do not want fleas to rest in peace. Pieces, yeah.

Sorry you've had to put up with the bastards too, it is horrible x

Grin at sphinx. I drown the fuckers too! I didn't realise the worst of the infestation was on the carpet at the side of our bed until Ds (14) who was sprawled on the bed annoying me said casual!y 'do you know, when you put your hand on the carpet, loads of fleas jump on to it?". That explains the flea bites on my ankles then. Have sprayed and hoovered, and debugged the cat but am still scratching. They really are the most annoying little fuckers.
