Hi my cat is almost 11. She is asleep a lot lately, is anyone else noticing theirs are sleepy?
She likes to go out evenings, say from 7-midnight( if I can't get her in)
Any thoughts please?

Is she eating?

Yes she's eating fine, no change . She's a bit thin though.

Our 13 year old spends most of her time sleeping, with the odd venture outside, and has done for a few years. However she can still run, jump and play fine, and eats well.

So it depends on your cat's behaviour in general. I'd keep an eye on the weight, as there are some things elderly cats are prone to which could cause weight loss.
It also depends if "sleepy" just means she sleeps more, or if she also seems to be lacking energy, slow, listless etc. Obviously if the latter then I would take her to the vets for a check-up.

However if she her weight stays steady, she eats ok and behaves normally I wouldn't be too concerned yet.

If she's losing weight I'd take her in.

Could be a thyroid problem if the cat is losing weight and is a bit listless. I would definitely get it checked just to be on the safe side.

Ours are 12 and have both been sleeping a a bit more lately, but I think it's because it's been very warm. I notice that when it gets cooler they're a lot more active, and if there's a decent breeze, they're dancing around the garden in delight.

Wanting to be outside at night when it's cooler is consistent with that too.

It's normal enough to slow down and sleep more as they get older, though, just like humans.

No harm in taking her in for a check up, but I don't think I'd worry as such iykwim.

Thanks all for your advice and common sense. Good point about the difference about being sleepy all the time and asleep. She is due an injection next month so will see what she is like then. She's pretty much snoozed all day today while it's rained all day !

My mangy old puss is 21 and she sleeps for about 22 hours a day now.

She eats, wees and poos .... And sleeps!

Not sure our cat has done much but snooze since we got him. Grin

He's almost eleven and has definitely slowed down lately. Doesn't bring home gifts of field mice and birds anymore, thank goodness. Often picks at his food. He's still quite bouncy when he needs to be, but they do slow down a bit.
