The litter tray

What lengths have you gone to for a DCat?

A few years ago we had a DCat who had intestinal cancer. We were told the prognosis after an operation was pretty good, but she would need to be feed via feeding tube in her neck for a while afterwards.

We had to mix up liquid food, get it to just the right temperature, and slowly syringe it in to her feeding tube, then flush with water, and then do same with liquid antibiotics and crushed tablets. The whole rigmarole took about an hour and a half and we had to repeat it 3-4 times a day. To squeeze this in around work we did the last feed around midnight then started again at 6am.

We kept this up for 6 weeks - a couple of times it looked like she was rallying, then worsened and she finally died the night before we had planned for her to be put to sleep.

With hindsight the whole thing was barmy, we should have let her go earlier but we really loved that cat and held out hope right to the end The first time I ever saw DH cry - really sob - was the night she died.

Anyway, anecdote over - has anyone gone to equally extraordinary lengths for a cat?

Our cat also had a feeding tube in after surgery last year. She had her bile duct flushed out, gall bladder removed and exploratory surgery with biopsies. This was in just to top her up as we needed her to eat independently.
It was hard work but she vomited the tube up 3 days before it was due to be removed. Luckily she was at the vets! I think we only did this for a week.
Warming and cooking all sorts of food in an attempt to get her to eat. Sitting up to get her to eat.
Drying her off with hairdryer if she's got wet and cold.
She's currently flopped by my feet purring away.
