Tail amputation

Anyone's cat had their tail amputated? Our girl got knocked by a car and lost the use of it - had it amputated today and she is not responding well to it. Growling and losing it - the vets have not given her a collar so she has bitten at the stump and has now had to go to the emergency vet. She was sat in a pool of blood. Urghhhhhh!

Ok, has the vet given her a collar now? She's bound to be freaked out about it right now.

She'll cope you've just got to get her through this bit, the adapting is up to her. I think it makes jumping a bit harder long term.

Your all going to be freaked out after having an rta and a major op.

My husband has taken her to the emergency vet so hopefully she will get a collar.

I am annoyed that they didn't dress the wound and give her a collar initially. She has been sat on a bloody stump this afternoon and constantly biting it all night until it was dripping.

oh bless her - hopefully she improves soon

we adopted an adult cat with no tail - they weren't sure what had happened to her. Her balance is a wee bit off and def isn't the most elegant of cats, but generally she does just fine.

when she's playing her stump waggles Grin

Cat2 had a tiny bit of degloved tail last year that had to be amputated, he was worrying the tail so had a collar.

What annoyed me is why Vet didn't give us a collar as standard item when he came home; we had to pay an extra £30 to see the vet to get the collar. Confused Angry

It took Cat2 4+ days to get used to the collar. First few days he crashed into things constantly, I felt very bad for him. Then we started to take collar off for short spells and after day 6/7 he didn't bother about his tail any more. Hang in there.

Did they give her post-op pain relief?

Yes she has something to add to her food - twice a day.

She will hate the collar I know it - she is quite grumpy anyway but its the only way she will heal properly.
