The litter tray

Pfffft...

Does anyone else's cat make this noise?

Little Monsieur does it when he's excited or displeased. Nothing like a hiss. More like a cat "phew", but through the nose, if that makes sense?

He is renowned for his peculiar un-cat like noises though.

I had a cat called Edwina who used to do that.

It was fucking ridiculous.

I picked her up as a stray and gave her a life of luxury so she had no reason to be displeased...

No, not a tiger sniff, he does that as well. Did you know horses do the same thing, Flehem response I think it's called.

My cat does it when he's really cosy and falling asleep on our bed Grin

my first cat use to do an inward sniff....like he was tasting rather tan smelling?? that sort of thing?

current idiot cat contents himself with making lion noises, obviously on a much smaller scale, but that deep internal grunty smug sound you see/hear on Attenborough programmes when the lions are all in a heap after eating ALL the zebra!

chuffing?
This might be what you mean, my cat does it when hes prancing about on my chest getting comfy and rubbing his face on me,
He also has a tail like a windscreen wiper when he does this, whipping it back and forth, just sit down and keep still!

Chuffing! That describes it!

Our elderly cat makes these sorts of noises - mostly when she's walking down my face to get off the windowsill. I suspect it's a triumph snort.

Ernie growls..he has done it a couple of times when he saw people coming toward him and didnt recognise, but is usually ok when he hears them. Recently DS appeared at the back door in his cream onesie and got growled at until he heard DS talking

He also growled at the ice cream van and was really perturbed..and now goes and hides.

Yes. Quite distinct from her chuffing noise, I get a pfft when:
-I have picked her up for cuddles, but the desire for a cuddle is unrequited
-I let her off my lap after finishing an unwanted grooming session. Most indignant pfft is reserved for ear cleaning
-I ignore her mewling for an early dinner

A clear noise of indignation!

The only noise I ever hear either of mine make is a sort of throaty whirring noise. Both make it, often clearly talking to one another. No meowing, no chirruping, no purring, just this odd little noise which I've not heard from any other cats that I can recall.

Triumphant snort - that could also fit the bill.

Little Monsieur makes noises that I didn't even know existed Allergic, never miaows. Just strange "errrrrr-erngYA and crooning noises.

I'm convinced he's part alien. When you cover his ears up, he looks like E.T.
