We have a cat who we got from a rescue about 6 years ago - she was about 3 or 4 years old at the time (based on the vet's estimation from the state of her teeth). We were told at the time that she had had a polyp in her ear for which she had just had surgery (there was a delay in us getting her due to the surgery), and we were told that the polyp could come back at any time. We took her on with full knowledge and acceptance of the fact that the polyp could recur.
We have been incredibly lucky in that the polyp did not come back for about the first 4 years, but since then we have been backwards and forwards to the vet putting the cat through surgery after surgery to have the polyps removed. She has been very well between surgeries, so although our vet has mentioned euthanasia a couple of times we have so far refused. The most recent surgery, however, was less than a month ago, the gaps between surgeries are getting closer and this is the closest yet. She isn't herself, she is quiet and appears quite miserable, and it is clear that the problem is already back (there is a certain identifiable smell which tells us when the polyp is back, and her fur by her ear and her paw are covered in a brown sticky substance).
I think I know what we need to do :( Or does anyone know of an alternative?
