Releasing the beasts

About 6 weeks I adopted to lovely boy cats from a shelter. They're brothers, both about 15 months old. Tomorrow they get their top up vaccine so they get to go outside. They're desperate to get out and I'm desperate to open the windows (6 weeks of two cats in a smallish flat). But I'm so nervous about it. I'm convinced they won't come back. Any tips on managing the first release and helping use the lads use the cat flap. It's a magnetic one. Thank you.

Well before breakfast is good. Do they come if you call them for food.

The rattle of a go cat box usually has them running.

Banging of food bowls/shaking of Dreamies or other favoured munch will tempt them in when hungry.

I put Loca8tors on my boys collars (quick release snap off collars - steer clear of the elasticated ones, they can cause horrendous injuries)

Would you consider feeding them something other than Go-Cat? It's like McDonalds, and causes pee-pipe problems, esp. in boy cats. Applaws is good, 80% meat, no cereals.

It's unlikely they won't come back, they have food, shelter and love.

Thank you for the response. I feed them pouches of cat food (3 each a day) and leave them the go cat to snack on during the day while I'm at work so it's only a little bowl. But will happily switch to something better for them. I accept all my money is now their money Smile. Will also buy new collars as have rubbish elasticated ones. Have also realised no self respecting boy cat should go about his new neighbourhood in a glittery gold collar.

How did it go Kerplonker? Also I can recommend Attu dried food it's 85% meat content no grains or fillers and like you I only use dried to leave down between pouches it's quite expensive but you need much less due to high meat content 😀
