I had a call from the vet about an hour ago. My lovely boy cat James was hit by a car.

I can't stop crying. I can't believe he won't come home again. I keep listening out for the cat flap. It hurts so much.

Oh no I'm so sorry. Saw on my FB feed earlier a report of a cat hit by a car. It brought it back how we lost a boy cat this way. Heartbreaking.
I'm so sorry. RIP James.

This is the first pet I've had. I didn't realise how much I'd love him. He was so young, not even 3. He slept on my bed.

Oh lord what a way to lose him too. I'm so sorry.

It hurts like hell to lose them however it happens.

So sorry. We lost our 2 year old cat the same way in November. DS2, whose cat he "officially" was, was devastated. But you have to remember that a happy outdoor cat (and particularly a boy) will wander; it's impossible to keep them completely safe.Remember the lovely time James had with you.

He had a lovely home and was clearly much loved. He was lucky. Remember that.
It's hard though. Be kind to yourself.

Oh tippy I am so very sorry. Our lovely cats have a way of taking over our lives to the extent that we suddenly realise that nothing would be the same without them.

I will never forget my little kitten when I was young. A woman from a few doors down knocked at our door one evening. I opened the door and she immediately asked for my mum or dad. It turned out that she found my dear kitten in the road after he was knocked over by a car. I was devastated but she took the time to wrap him up in a blanket, and with my parents permission, let me see him. I will never forget him.

Thanksmy Siamese is cuddling up to me right now and I am taking a moment to think of your dear cat

So sorry tippy, that's very sad news. My boycat is nearly 3 as well and it is such a young age. I'm sure he had a wonderful life with you though. RIP James Flowers

Oh my, I am so sorry. Like a lot of other posters it happened to my lovely boy too.
It is dreadful but having him cremated and bringing him back home helped a lot. Benjy is still with us. Be kind to yourself, take care and take a big hug from us all.x

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

For those who've lost their pets, did you adopt another? Nothing, nothing can replace James, but the house feels so empty.

We did. We now have 2 beautiful girl kittens from a rescue charity. This time, we chose girls who had been reared with a foster family, rather than male feral kittens from a rescue that did not have the facilities to handle. I'm hoping that these 2 will wander less.

Yes. I've always had another boy come live with me - and usually fairly quickly. That's not any sort of recommendation, it's just the way I am - the hole in my life is too big to live with and there are so many cats out there just aching for a home to lay themselves of a night.

It's not something I think about much, it's just a given in this household.
