The litter tray

Older cat started peeing and pooing in the house

Cat is somewhere between 12 and 13 years old. Has had issues with loose stools in the past which we've fixed by changing foods but for the last few days she has started pooing and peeing in the house even when she is in the kitchen right next to the cat flap.

Have booked an appointment with the vet but am wondering what the possible reasons are and is it a fixable issue. I'll be honest and say we are not in a position to spend hundreds on numerous tests and treatments and given her age not sure I would want to put her through that sort of stress.

Any experience or thoughts greatly appreciated

Does she have a litter tray indoors? Maybe she's just feeling a bit achy (there are supplements that can help her joints), or maybe a new cat in the area scaring her?

No litter tray indoors but have been thinking about getting one as she is constantly just going on the lawn and path now (well prior to doing it inside) I did wonder about other cats in the garden we do get a lot although that hasn't bothered her in the past.

You need a litter tray. I'm guessing she's in at night. That's too long to go without access to somewhere to go.
The cats outside may bother her more if she's feeling her age and a bit more vulnerable.

She had a cat flap so can go out at any point during the day or night but will get a litter tray too in case it's because she's scared of other cats. Do you think it's still worth getting the vet to look her over?
