How long to keep the collar on post spaying?

Poor little thing looks very sad wearing her collar! She's not tried to rip it off yet but is banging it into everything in the hope that might dislodge it. She was spayed yesterday and has quite a large wound with external stitches on her side (not sure whether that was because she is slightly older than average to be spayed, or because she seemed to be in heat). She'll be on her own during the day so we wouldn't be able to keep an eye on what she was doing. I would take it off for a bit when we're around, but I don't think we'd get the damn thing back on...

How many days, do you think? Two or three maybe, until it looks a little more healed? I don't want to bother the vet if someone else has an easier answer

At least till the first post op check and ideally till the stitches come out.

Do what lonecat says. One of ours chewed the glue off and had to be stapled back together.
