Moving House

This is a tad premature but hopefully (if builders crack on) we will be moving in early summer. We have three house cats and I'm wondering how to manage the move for them. They have, in the past, been to a cattery but one year an attempt to carrier them for trip to cattery led to Big Stress. Since then, whenever we've been away we've had home visits as they seem to prefer being at home/knowing their space. Practically and safety wise it makes sense to use a cattery for the days around the move but I don't know if stress of this coupled with stress of coming 'home' to a new house will be hard for them. Any more general tips on getting cats settled into new home also gratefully received....

Another option would be to set up a dog crate (Pets at Home sell them) and put them in there in a quiet area of the new house during the move. Make sure at least part of it is covered so they feel safe. That way they would be safe from running out while it is all going on, and they will feel that it is their own safe place.

I would let them out of it after a few days and then you will need to be very careful to avoid letting them out of door or windows for at least three weeks.
