Cat rolling in poo - help!

Our 8 year old cat has for the last few weeks kept coming in covered with poo down her back. I am not sure if it is her poo, or even cat poo at all. I can't touch her as I am pregnant and can't go near cat poo, so my husband who is not a cat lover at all, is having to shower her, and it is just becoming too much. We have kept her in for the last four days, but let her out today as she was constantly crying and miserable. Everything is frozen here, so we thought this lessened the chances of there being poo to roll in, but no, she is back covered again.

Does anyone have any experience of anything like this, or any idea why she might be doing it? I think our only option is to keep her in, but she has always been an outdoor cat, so it is hard for her.

Its most likely to be hers I would think, would be very odd behaviour for a cat to go near any other poo!! When you kept her in did you notice if her poo was alright then?!

I would think a trip to the vets might be in order tbh.

Yes, her poo in her litter tray was fine, it was formed and solid. She didn't roll around in her litter tray. The poo on her back is quite orangey brown, whereas hers is quite dark. I know that cats normally avoid poo like the plague, so it seems very odd, and it has never happened before. I think I will take her to the vet next week. Thank you.
