DS has an infected toe - I was advised to bath it in dettol by GP

Did so this morning - pot on floor (cat come in and took a look in the pot) and then again just now (cat asleep upstairs)

It was only when I was putting the bottle of dettol away I read Not recommended for use around cats

There was some spilled on the floor which I cleaned up and dried off

I'm worried now I might have positioned him.

Why did I not know this before.

I strongly suspect that unless your cat was drinking it, it will be fine...

Do you know if he ingested any though - including getting some on his coat/paws which he might have groomed off? What is his behaviour like?

I'm a bit Shock at your doctor. Disinfectant really isn't indicated (an antiseptic might have been, but not Dettol).

But don't worry about the cat. Dettol that has been used, then dried off will have only a tiny residue and that won't be a problem.

If you still feel worried, rinse and dry your floor again.

Hmm At the advice. Salt water footpath, not hot water but warm & antibiotics if it's infected.

Ask for him to be seen by the NHS podiatrist if it persists.

Not in the NHS - puts fingers in ears as I pay this GP a far wack for each visit!! I got a steroid cream too and it's already improving.

Anyway pretty sure there's been no ingestion or even getting on paw.

Sounds OK then.

I did this awhile back and I was in a total panic after I found our cat eating grass but she was fine.

Dettol is toxic to cats if ingested as they can't metabolise phenols
