The litter tray

missing cat....again

Last year our gorgeous cat went missing never to be seen again. My dd's were so upset. Earlier this year we got two new kittens, they have been neutered and had been going out for the last couple of months. Now one has gone missing. He hasn't been seen since Friday night. We just know that's it and it will be the same as before. We are all devastated and my dd's are so sad, I feel bad putting them through it again after last time, maybe we shouldn't have got more kittens.
We don't live in a busy road and there are fields behind our house, is it more likely that he got taken by a fox? Or just got lost? I don't know how far to search or what direction to search, I feel so hopeless.

I'm so sorry, I think you still need to go round calling him. Is he microchipped?.

Does your area have a Facebook spotted page? I see lost cats on ours.

How awful for you Blackhills. I know what an awful feeling it is. I really have no idea what could have happened. I'm guessing they don't wear collars so that would rule out being caught by one somewhere.

Foxes don't generally take cats (small kittens yes), but it does rather depend on the fox. My foxes are all well fed and so not desperate, and seem to be afraid of even the tiniest cats. Perhaps more rural and desperately hungry foxes might be more aggressive. It seems to be the exception rather than the rule though.

I really, really hope he strolls back through the door soon.

So sorry Blackhills, I had a 7 month old cat go missing for 3 days last year and it was really hard to think where to search, when to give up etc. They can go wandering far & wide even in bad weather ( it was cold & raining when mine went missing). I tried lots of things to find him & put up posters etc but in the end he turned up put of the blue...we can't be sure but we think he had got shut in somewhere, would that be a possibility for your cat?

Thanks all, he's still missing. I've printed some leaflets off at work today and will go out tonight asking people to check their sheds etc.
We'll do all we can, I supposed I just feel less optimistic after last time. If he doesn't come back I can't get another one, the heartache is just too much to bear.

I feel for you. I really hope he comes back. Any chance of following your other cat on the hope he might go to him grasping at straws

Our six month old kitten went missing last year for three days. We leafleted all the neighbours and then he strolled in at three o'clock in the morning ans calm as anything.

He may gave got stuck in someone's shed or garage? It's worth getting the neighbours to check.

Any news of your boy, BlackHills?

Thanks for asking, no he hasn't returned. We have spoken to neighbours and also leafleted and postered the local area. Informed the vets and put on missing pages on FB. Not really much else we can do.
I'm ok until I think about him possibly hurt or scared and fall apart. My heart aches for him but I don't know what else I can do Sad

So sorry to hear he hasn't returned Sad. Have you tried putting hot tuna out at night, or his litter tray so he can smell the scent in case lost? Those were the tips I had when mine went missing a few weeks ago. Keep going out and calling at night, you never know he might be nearby or being fed by someone else. Tom cats can roam really far. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Flowers

I didn't know about hot tuna, the trouble is I have 3 others cats who would scoff it in seconds! I have put the litter tray outside though as this was recommended last time. Thanks you for your kind wishes.

So sorry BlackHills, I know your hope is fading but a week is not too long in missing cat terms, he may still turn up. Is he neutered & microchipped? The not knowing is the worst thing so I hope you have some news soon.

He's home!!! Grin he has been living in a derelict caravan and being fed by a very well meaning family. They decided to put his picture on Facebook after feeding him for a week as they were going away for Christmas and didn't want him left alone.
We are terrified to let him out now, any advice so this doesn't happen again?

That's lovely news!
One of my boys has just turned up after 3 days missing. I wish he could talk because I have no idea where he has been. We're very rural and I had visited and asked everyone nearby.
I just admitted to DH that yesterday I drove around looking for his body on grass verges for about 5 miles in each direction - I expected him to tell me that I was a fool, but he admitted he had done the same!

Oh my gosh BlackHills that is fantastic! Also Rooster!!
My boy went missing at about the same age and I did find he was much less keen to roam around after returning from his jaunt, I was very nervous about letting him out though (and still do fuss around him even though he is 2 years old now). From memory I kept him in for a few days I think.

I'm so happy to hear this. How far away is the caravan?

Fantastic news - so pleased for you. I know exactly what you have been going through. Last New Year my 7 month old kitten went missing for a week. Eventually returned very skinny. Suspect he was locked in a shed or garage. I was advised to keep him in for as long as he was missing but gave up after a day or two as he was driving me nuts trying to get out. Happily he has never gone missing again - maybe learnt his lesson. I would try keeping your youngster in for a day or two.

Where was the caravan op? Was he close to home?

Report
BlackHillsofDakota · 20/12/2015 23:32

Thanks all, he's been settling back in, although his sister isn't as happy to see him as expected!
The caravan is probably a quarter of a mile from our house but in a direction I didn't think for one minute he would have headed. Just shows you can never predict where cats roam!
We have locked the cat flap for now but with three other cats it's a bit of a military operation making sure they are where they should be and not letting him out!

That is such lovely news, so pleased for you! I also know what you went through The feeling is awful. So pleased you got a happy ending. Hmm very hard to keep cats in - maybe stock up on cat treats and bribe him to stay?!
