Ollie and cat flu

Remember me posting about me taking on a rescue with FIV and flu?
Well... He has had loads of antibiotics and nothing has cleared it. And his sneezes stink
I pushed and he went under anaesthetic today to have a scope done
He doesn't have cat flu. What he did have was a huge broken tooth embedded in his nostril Shock causing the sneezing and infections. He must have been in so much pain
Vet is astounded and has saved tooth for me to see when I get him later

OMG poor Ollie!! He will be so much more comfortable now - he has fallen on his feet with you. There should be more people like you really.

He was very sad this morning as had to be starved for anaesthetic!
I'm amazed, he's been eating raw too so crunching on bones etc and all along he's had that, possibly for years
Gratuitous pic of him last night

Poor poor lad - he must have been in so much discomfort all this time so it's a credit to his character that he's still as loving as he is.

When does he get home?

I know - he's never once been aggressive with me. The weird thing is I tried to get him in the carrier this morning and he wouldn't go in. So I sat by it (talking to myself) "Ollie, I want to make you better, this will fix you"
He looked at me and just walked in and turned around and let me shut the door

Picking him up at about half 6 tonight
The vet was "well. It's quite interesting" - her tone was "this is THE most exciting thing I've seen all year" Grin

Thank Goodness you pressed to have a scope. I'm surprised he hasn't popped his clogs to be honest - and it wouldn't have got better. A great big piece of decaying semi-foreign matter sitting in an infection sensitive place?

He'll be delighted to be back home; and if Seniorboy is anything to go by, increasingly OK about going in his carrier when he realizes properly that it doesn't mean abandonment.

Shall he be having a treat tonight?

They don't know how long it's been there but given he's had "flu" since before being in foster... At least 9 months? Possibly years
He was singing Hmmto me all last night as he wasn't allowed any food. So he has turkey mince, heart and pork chunks ready, with salmon oil and his cheese flavoured kitty bloom supplement Blush

Wot - no caviar? Grin

He doesn't do fish Grin
He would probably ideally like some roast chicken but the mince will be nice and soft for him

Poor little sod, Is it a tooth that never descended Confused

He will be so much better from now on.

No, it's a back one that broke off. Looks like it might have broken then pushed back up into his gum

Oh bless. That pose says "you fixed me. I will protect and love you forever!"
Thank goodness you got to the bottom of the problem. Wishing him good health from now on.
Flowers
Wishing we had a roast chicken icon!
(Love that your response to caviar was simply he wouldn't like it! Nothing too good for gorgeous boy!)

He really will feel so much better. That's a very congested and nerve-rich area of the body, human or cat, and one in which something causing pressure and infection can be desperately uncomfortable. Made my day that has. Smile

And why not, eh? Smile

Happy cat. Being home with his Mum again will also have sent his trust and comfort levels rocketing, leaving aside any physical well being.

That could be an after-effect of the whole GA process - the anaesthetic itself, the empty stomach beforehand, the full(?) stomach after etc etc. I do hope it was in a relatively tasteful place?

In the bedroom Hmm and then he sneezed some blood on me before kneading me right on my nipple. Bloody cats Grin

He may not have got his eye in of course. In my experience, cats prefer to upchuck on things which are deeply personal, pale or difficult/impossible/expensive to clean. (With extra points for combinations thereof. Grin)
