Itchy ear! How to deal with it at 2am

Mr C gets itchy ears, nightly, in the small hours. The whole bed shakes as he deals with it, and, once he has checked that I am awake enough to finish his session with a belly rub, peace is restored.

Until recently. His arthritis means scratching his right ear is off limits. Last night 2-3am was a fiasco at Cory Palace as he and I both tried to reach the sweet spot.

Any tips? Does anyone have any successful super-scratching tips or any advice for magic fingers?

Why?? Is it physical or psychological??

It could be an earmite??

What has the vet said about it? Yes earmites are a possibility. Or something else requiring ear drops.

I've never felt required to scratch my cats ears for them but now I'm worrying that I might be failing as an owner as I don't do it :(
