Crying cat?

We have a (just) one year old boy. He's very friendly and lovely most of the time.

But when we're all going to bed he goes nuts, following people around and crying when we close doors (to the bathroom, when a dc goes to bed). He's kept in from dusk, has been since he started going out at 6 months.

He's happy to sleep on our bed and we let him out as soon as we wake (at 7) but after everyone leaves (apart from me) he does the rounds of all the bedrooms, crying. When I'm here I let him in/out and leave the door open (he prefers the door to the flap!) but apart from sleeping about 2-5 each afternoon he wanders around the dc bedrooms and cries.

Can I do anything to help. I think he misses people (and clearly I'm not good enough though I give him loads of attention) as last week when they were off school he was happy.

I generally take excessive crying as a complaint about/request for something or other - it's just that I have to work out what it is, which isn't always easy unless you know the cat really really well.

What are his normal domestic arrangements? (eg litter trays, feeding and watering, playing etc etc.)

Seperation anxiety? Can cats get that?

my cat had separation anxiety he did get over it but i had to confine him to one room and he had another cat in with him for company

If I had to extrapolate from my boys' behaviour (always dangerous) I'd be guessing that sleeping on your bed isn't his totally preferred option - that he's bonded with one of the DCs and would prefer to sleep with them. (And use their bed as a safe sleeping place during the daytime.)

Do you close the DC's doors at night?

My cats cry when they're hungry, when they can smell tuna or cheese, or when they want to come into a room we've locked them out of temporarily.

It sounds like he's crying because his preferred human isn't available - does he have a special bond with one of the DC's? Sounds like he wants to be with someone who isn't around - can he sleep in with the DC's if he wants to? Our ginger tom is a big baby and he cries if I don't let him be with me sometimes. There's nothing wrong with him, he's just needy!
