The litter tray

Outdoor cat litter tray/box?

We have an elderly cat who has taken to using the immediate garden as his loo. Currently dh is clearing away the number twos most days but the garden smells and we have to avoid a big chunk of the garden (we have a small dd I don't want playing in 'poo corner' as we refer to it). It wouldn't be quite so bad if it was in the border and very edge of the garden but it's spreading further out into the grass and taking up a large area as he varies where he goes,

I'm on the look out for an outdoor covered litter tray for him to use to make it less smelly and so we can use our garden without fear of poo or poo remnants in the grass. I've googled this online and found a few that come up that look like they would work when I type in 'outdoor cat litter' but when I look at the info they don't necessarily say they are specifically for outdoor use and the reviews are often people who use them inside.

Wondering about this one

We don't want one with a cat flap design as our cat is thick a bit slow and not very good at working these out.

Has anyone seen or got anything suitable they could recommend or would consider suitable?

No opinion on that one...but the cat flap type ones, you can take the door off - I've done that for kittens until they get used to it.

Have you had then outside? Does the rain get in? It would be sheltered in a corner of the garden next to the house and wall...

I haven't had it outside, I was just saying they come off so as to widen your options a bit.

Um, current ones, yeah rain would probably get in, not the last ones I had so much though...so it'd depend on the individual design.

I'd probably be tempted to put it in something, if it was me. Like, I don't know, a kennel or something? For the roof. But then that might not be outside enough for your cat?

Kennel, interesting idea. If the cat would go I could just put a litter tray in a kennel assuming the tray would go in and out.

Something like that where the roof is on hinges?

Yes but I can't find one on hinges and they are rather expensive. Gah, it would be due easier if the products in looking at actually say if they can be used outdoors.

If you flick through the photos, that ones roof is on hinges, I wasn't just being random, lol

Oh you're right, good spot. This would be great then. I'm going to measure the litter tray and see which one is the best fit and hope it's the smallest and cheapest one!
