The litter tray

Cat suddenly peeing on bathroom mat

Mainly indoor, 7 year old girl. Completely litter trained.

Litter tray is in the bathroom, a few feet from where she is peeing. I clean out poo daily, add fresh litter every few days and fully clean once a week.

No recent changes (we moved 8 months ago and baby is 6 months old) and I health issues.

Last week I wasn't quick enough to change her tray and she poo'd on my raincover and peed on the bathroom mat. Totally my fault I'd completely forgotten to put her tray back but since she has 3 times pissed on the clean bathroom mat.

Any ideas to nip this in the bud?

Sorry she has no health issues.

She only has access to a few rooftops so she isn't being bothered by another cat

If you're sure it's not related to cystitis then I think i would just remove the bathroom mat and just put it on the floor when you actually need to use it.

Have you been washing the bath mat in bio or non-bio? Bio washing powder is the one to get rid of any lingering smells that are encouraging her to use the same place again.

I second TCN advice. One of my cats used to do this so we only put it down when we needed it and she stopped.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have several bath mats and she has pissed on them all (so she wasn't repeatedly peeing on the same one)

I have removed the bath mats we just put it down as and when we have a bath / shower and touch wood all OK!
