our little fella is 17 months now and Ive noticed for ages black dirt under his chin...hes regularly fleed so know it isnt that.

Tonight at vets for his vacinations got him to check and he said it was a skin allergy and as no redness or irritation to use vaseline or sudacreme on it!!!

Our cat has this. The vet said if it wasn't bothering her then just to leave it.

A quick google suggested her plastic feeding bowls may be the cause so we switched to ceramic and it has cleared up completely.

I can just imagine trying to put Sudacreme on a cat ShockGrin

Hi yes Ive just read about plastic bowls ours has ceramic but we do have a plastic one we put tuna or chicken in sometimes so that's going today.

Vet said as it wasnt bothering him and it wasnt red or inflammed to just leave it and pop some vaseline or sudacreame on. Medication he has he though was way to strong for him.

Online suggests bathing the area so going to do this today and try vaseline and get rid of the plastic bowl

Low grade feline acne, the beautiful girl had it all her life. With my vet hat on I choose to do nothing about it ever, it just stayed the same for 14 years. She had metal bowls all her life so I am convinced about the bowl stuff.

We use really cheap ceramic side plates for the cat, they cost 50-75p each and fit really well in the dishwasher.

Sometimes treating something's more distressing than not treating it iyswim?.

Just a brief update for those interested in this ailment...I used the vaseline for a few days and removed one plastic bowl and hey presto it has all cleared up!!!! :)
