Another one. Sad They seem to be annually now. I hate it and she hates it. Nothing to eat after 10pm tonight.

Ugh. I hate this.

That seems a little frequent given that it's a GA procedure. What's up with them that she requires so many dentals?

(Remind me how old she is?)

Oh poor you & sparkling cat Sad

It'll help her though. What time do they want her in?.

i know cozie. She had one in the September one year and by the next February at booster time they said she needed another one. I think she must be prone to the build up, she has been like it since we got her 5 years ago. She's about 8 now. I have noticed her breath is a bit whiffy and there's some build up again, they will have a double check first.

We have tried trying to clean her teeth but unsurprisingly she's not having any of it. She has drops in her water and a bowl of crunchies designed to help.

She's due there at 9am Fluffy but she's last on the op list as it's a 'dirty procedure'.

I think I'd be wanting a long talk with the vet about this, Sparkling. You surely can't go on like this year after year. (She'd almost be better off with them out!)

PS - after tomorrow at any rate.

I am really glad you feel the same cozie. I hate her having GAs and annually too.

Difficult to know what to do for the best when the vets is insisting they need something doing.

Is your cat happy to have their teeth brushed chock? I think we may have to give it a really good try but it was awful last time.

I just don't like giving any animal GAs if it's not necessary. They're not dangerous but they do carry risks - which rise as the animal gets older I think. Given that she's hopefully going to be with you for many many years yet, I'd grab the vet for a chat once this procedure is over - just to see what her long term options are.

No she wasn't. This was for our old girl who was prone to tartar.

You put it on a paw or their shoulder and they lick it off.

I know this must be frustrating and the PP is right there are minor risks, but for a routine procedure in a healthy cat these are minimal. The risks for non-treatment are chronic pain, bacteria seeding to other organs, heart disease, kidney disease, bone infection and death, so whilst many people minimise dental disease, it's important to recognise it has serious implications. Soarkling, it dounds ac if uou're being very thorough, maybe switch to dry food only and see how she gets on?

After the last dental we were told to try and get her onto some vv £££ dry food especially for dental stuff. She wouldn't touch them. Left it for a few days after the dental as her teeth may have been sensitive, but no.

My guess is that they will want me to have another go with that, or insist we have to give brushing a better go.

Either way they will make me feel awful probably.

I think i will be willing to give anything not involving a toothbrush a go chock. Do I need to ask the vet or is it in sale over the counter?

Does anyone else want to put that gel in in-accessible areas to see them contort themselves to get it off?.

It's be like cat twister.

The crunchies we have for dental things we mix with normal crunchies but they aren't the complete food for teeth that the vet recommended.

I feel all torn over it all.

There is a toothbrush attachment but you don't have to use it.

I just squeezed a bit out on her fur and she lapped it.

You can get it over the counter or vet.

Do you think some cats are 'prone' to the tartare/plaque build up more than others?

My Mum and Dad's cat is fed on a complete dried food and gets build up but not to the point it needs a dental.
My old cat (RIP) she ate pouches the same as Sparkling Cat but had perfect teeth. She died at 18 months, but she had a heart murmur. Sad

I can't help it chock. I am trying to do the right thing but feeling it's all wrong.

Funny how insurance doesn't cover dental procedures isn't it?

Anaesthetics are safe and she isn't an old cat.

Do ask about the toothpaste though x

I will. Thanks chock. x

She's sat next to me now all oblivious. Sad

How did drop off go?

All good thanks Fluffy. She got checked over but they didn't actually look at her teeth. Confused

No call as yet. They mentioned something about 3pm.

If they already know that her teeth are ....not good.... they'd probably wait until she's out for the detailed check. (Cats not being the most cooperative of dental patients.)

The waiting is awful though so I feel for you.
