The litter tray

Why do my cat's paws smell of digestive biscuits?

Is it normal or does he have cat athlete's foot? They look fine and (reasonably) clean - the claws are always a bit grubby from going outdoors - but they smell really strongly and I just figured out what the smell reminds me of.

Odd.

Well I have always though my cats smell of digestive biscuits. All over. I figured it was something in their saliva!

Really moggle? LandingCat definitely doesn't have that smell, except on his paws, and it's recent, or at least I've not been aware till recently. I shall have to pay attention and see if it spreads. He normally smells of my perfume or DH's aftershave, depending on whose lap he's colonised most that day.

Have you changed cat litter? They have different smells. One of them turns my white cat's paws peach. We think he looks really cute but he's less delighted.

Cats only sweat through their feet. I had one cat whose feet always smelt of cheesy wotsits. Not unpleasant - just very, very cheesy!

Electricalpussy did start smelling quite bad a couple of years ago and we took her to the vets - her teeth were rotten so she had 75% of them removed

sorted

Our late cat's paws had a distinctive basmati rice smell. Quite lovely.

Ah, thanks everyone - and Petallic, the sweaty paws thing makes sense, we've had the heating on more than usual as I've been at home and LandingCat has spent most of the time draped along the sofa back as close to the radiator as he get without actually lying on it, so he is probably just sweatier than normal! It's not an unpleasant smell, unlike human sweatiness though.

All the cats whose paws I've sniffed and there have been a few had the digestive biscuit smell!

Dammit, I'm now trying to sniff my cat's paws and she won't let me. Keeps lifting them away. Later I'll catch her unawares. I do like the smell of her fur but I don't now how I'd describe it. Not especially biscuity.

Ah, but imagine if you dipped them in tea. Their little feet would dissolve!

I thought it was just mine! R-Cat always smells of digestives or another woman's perfume, but I won't go into that again. T-Cat doesn't do cuddles so I doubt sniffing him would be tolerated. How strange, biscuit cats! Xmas Grin

Um I think mine just smells faintly of sweaty cat. Also I got a slight scratch in the nostril just because terribly sweet and gentle sofa cat couldn't figure out wtf I was trying to do and pulled away in confusion at an awkward moment. I'll try to get another whiff when we go to bed.
