Old girl just passed away :-(

My old lady has just died in my arms - she was 16 and the first cat dh and I got when we moved in together. She has been there through the births of the dcs and was wonderful with them - quite happy to be carried around, dressed up and wheeled about in the dolls pram and used to curl up in any cardboard box left unattended for more than 10 seconds. She would have mugged you for a piece of cheese and her favourite game was to chase frozen peas round the floor.

Posting here cos I need to get it out .....

Goodnight old girl - you will be missed Hmm

I'm so sorry, Who. They're part of your family, aren't they. But sixteen years of being a much loved family member is pretty good going. Lots of happy memories to look back on I'm sure.

I don't want to read & run, really sad for you :(

bless you & your family, it's awful & I know from experience that it's the worst time of year to happen - we lost our old girl the week before Xmas a few years ago & it stung like hell

This might seem inappropriate right now, but please bare with me as it helped us all a lot - if your DCs are younger, (or perhaps even not) when things have calmed slightly, if you know friends, or friends of friends with cats/kittens that are away for Xmas, then perhaps think about offering to kitty sit - DD was heartbroken - our friend was so grateful when we took his kittens for a couple of weeks & they really did help salvage a bit of xmas for us - that plus rainbow bridge

Wishing you all much strength Flowers

General old age - bit senile and dodgy kidneys which we were treating. Been really sleepy for the last couple of days which I put down to the medication.

She fell over and collapsed about 9.30 but was really peaceful - no sign of any pain so we thought we would let her slip away in her own time. So glad the dc were all in bed though.

It was her time and I'm just pleased she went at home - she hated the vet!

I'm so sorry, Who. She sounded lovely. Our 17-year-old cat (we also got her when we moved in together) died in the summer and we miss her every day. Much love to you and your family.

Rockinhippy's ideas about catsitting is a very good one though. We look after all our dc's animals when they're away and it's a way of reconnecting in a way that we all feel we can cope with at the moment.

We do still have 3 other younger cats and a terrier so animals about in the house thank goodness! Dog was really confused , just kept sniffing at her -the other dcats all buggered off outside!

Thankfully it's not the first pet to go to the Rainbow bridge for the dc - we lost our old collie back in the summer and the labrador and pink cat the year before - all from old age Smile

It will be strange not to trip over her every time the fridge door opens.....

Oh, I am so sorry! She sounds like she was a lovely girl..My old girl is probably 12 or 13 years old now. I spend lots of time snuggling with her..She is very tiny and frail..

Sending hugs to you and your family Flowers

Clearly she's awesome. Not much comfort I'm sure, but she died peacefully, with you. She must have had a lovely life. Thanks

My boy (aged 16 & a cat) is everything to me. Io does everything your wonderful cat did. You have all my sympathy & I am so sorry to hear about it :(

It never gets any easier does it? & non pet owners don't really understand how they are part of the family

hugs

Oh I'm so sorry, I always try to console myself by remembering that I have tried to give them the best life that I can, yours was one of the lucky ones who had a lifelong family home and plenty of cats never get that sadly.

I hope that you all have many happy memories to draw on and can take some comfort from knowing how loved and lucky she was.

I have an ancient old cat who has gone downhill a bit in the last few weeks, I suspect we haven't got much longer to enjoy him and I'm dreading it.

It sounds a really good ending for her. I'm sorry you lost her though.

It's so hard to say goodbye to them.
