I am so sad, my poor cat went out from 4pm-8pm, I tried to get her in way before then due to fireworks and no luck, went to pick up dh, and dc's from swimming and found her howling on the door step, took her straight to the emergency vet, she has a fractured jaw, is missing teeth and possibly brain swelling, I am so upset, she has a cat flap and we try and keep her in at night, the one time she didn't come back and this happens, we live in a quiet village. A neighbouring garden had fireworks when she was out, I am guessing she ran in front of a car scared trying to get home. The vet will ring in the night in need be, but at 7am otherwise. I am not sure why I am posting, feel I need others like me will understand how awful it is.

Support from me. Fireworks make me SO angry, I think they should be be banned unless a proper organised display. Was just saying that because it's fallen in mid week this year we get Friday and Saturday before and after too. Ridiculous. Your poor baby. Everything crossed she will be ok x

Oh so sorryFlowers

One of my fur babies cats, was hit last year, sadly he was killed straight away but someone took him to the vets anyway.

Try not to beat yourself up, it could have happened at any time and its not your fault she was out. It's horrible but she managed to get herself back to you and cats are made of tough stuff so I hope she will be ok.

It's heartbreaking when something happens to them though. More flowers ThanksFlowers

Thank you, she is usually kept in over night. I hate fireworks apart from organised displays, you can't predict when they will go off. I think I shall be half awake all night worrying, I keep seeing her poor puffed up face. I keep telling myself she made it home so that has to be a good sign.

Thanks Queen, hadn't thought of it like that ,they wouldn't try and save her if they didn't think she'd make it, they said all of the worst case scenarios, hard not to think of them.

Oh bless her, poor little thing. At least she had the good sense to come home after she was hurt, cats often hide in fear in these situations.
I hope she makes a good recovery.

She is a clever girl, we haven't had to train her to do a thing, done it all herself, no idea how, had her from a kitten I guess she learnt from her mum, she follows me when I go to pick up the children or go to the chip van, I look like a crazy cat lady going to buy chips (quite rural hence the van) and the cat comes, she has us all wrapped around her paws and is the first cat dh has had, he wasn't keen on cats until we got her, converted now.

The receptionist from the vets called (vet is in the middle of doing a caesarean on a poor dog) and my lovely cat is responding to the medication and her swelling is going down, they said she was chilled out. They will call again in the morning with an update and to see if I can pick her up, they said her jaw might reset itself or might have to be rewired another time. Poor cat, she fell out of my car engine this year as well, luckily I realised in time, that's a few lives lost.

I will check out the petition and sign it, seems nuts really anyone over 18 can go around letting off fireworks.

Thank you all for your lovely support this evening. I am going to try and get a bit of sleep and will update you when I know more.

Poor girl - but she's in the best place at the moment. On lots of lovely pain meds probably.

Best of luck to her and let us know how she does.

Thanks all. Had a call from the vets, she is responding well to pain relief, got irritated at 1am, I am taking that as a fighting sign. She still has a bulging eye, so they will sedate her and give her an Xray in a bit, I need to call about 10am to see how she is doing, she is likely to be in the vets all day today and probably tube fed for today at least. We are making her a corner in the living room under the radiator with a box and lots of cosy cushions, she has a cat bed, scratching post etc and uses none of them and prefers a good old box! and my ds age 6 is going to make a do not disturb sign for her. I am dreading anything happening to her under sedation, she is small but a determined little thing. She is 2 in February. I still can't believe it has happened, really quiet where we are, we live on a road that just has a field at the top of it, someone must know they hit her. She has a dog friend at the top of the road, he stops to say hi when ever she is sitting in our front garden and they seem genuinely pleased to see each other, he'll be missing her this morning.

My cat got hit by a car and managed to make it home. He had a broken jaw and one of his front legs was completely limp and curled up to his chest. The vet thought it would have to be amputated. It was awful, OP, so I know how you're feeling.

I'm here to cheer you up and tell you he made a complete recovery. Smile
The leg thing was nerve damage which slowly righted itself and the jaw also re-set itself. He looked awful for about two weeks (spent the first week at the vet's surgery) and it was about 2 months before he could eat properly, but looking at him now it's like the accident never happened.

Here's hoping your puss has a similar outcome.

Twofingers, how did your cat manage to eat?, She is also missing teeth, I forgot to add that, my poor cat, she really is the sweetest thing. She woke my dd up to play on Thur morning, dd was not too pleased as it was 5am!

We are meant to be away next weekend, but my mum was coming to stay to cat sit and stay with her (I am that overprotective) but I am rethinking this plan currently, we were staying fairly local anyway so the rest can go and I can visit!

Cats manage pretty well with missing teeth. (Seniorboy has only had 5 for a few years and does OK - I thought he couldn't manage anything hard (he's always rejected Dreamies) but he's recently developed a passion for Vet's Kitchen treats and they're quite hard and fairly large.)

My cat was hit by a car when he was about 1. I don't know how he managed to get home and through the cat flap. One leg was obviously badly broken as was his jaw.
The vets did an amazing job. His leg had to be pinned and he had to live in a cage for a while to stop too much movement.
He is now 8 and lying on the bed wondering when I'm getting up to feed him. You would never know anything had happy to him.
I hope your little cat makes a speedy recovery.
