The litter tray

So...I have a cat!

Well...it's been months, and I mean months since I first decided I desperately needed a cat. I set out to find the perfect rescue kitty, emailing all local shelters and checking websites daily. One shelter said they would put us on a waiting list as we had more than a few boxes to tick with specific needs for our set-up. Meanwhile I've been stockpiling things we need every time I'd spot a bargain. Futurecat had food bowls, a scratch-post, a bed, a litter box, a blanket, toys, and food ready for him/her...

...then we got the news that DH was to made redundant. I was gutted, because I was gearing up for this new commitment, financially and emotionally, and it looked like we were going to have to wait some more after all.

Well, two things happened simultaneously last week. DH landed an AMAZING job, better than the first. Secondly, I saw a FB post from an acquaintance sharing her friend's post asking if anyone had room in their homes/hearts for an adult male cat who urgently needed re-homing as the owners were moving and couldn't take him with. The shelters around them were full and couldn't take him in. He apparently is very sweet-natured, likes children and ok with dogs and very social with his humans.

Something just told me, "this is our cat." So I messaged my friend, who messaged her friend and arranged for me to come and have a look at him on Sunday.

I fell hook, line, and sinker for this cat.

He is 7, neutered, chipped, and vaccinated (I have his latest vet records). He's a run of the mill moggy who is white with black spots and tabby markings all mixed in. He is the most wonderful cat (of course!) and has settled in so nicely. In fact he's asleep on the back of the sofa right behind me as I type.

Our family is finally complete! Smile

Congratulations! Your life will never be the same again and I think it's fabulous that you have rehomed an older cat.

Brilliant, lucky you! I guess you'll have to get his chip details changed. Please can we have a photo?

Couldn't have worked out better all round.

I'm very pleased,

Yes, I must do it ASAP. I have the chip details with the number and stuff. I'm not letting him out for a few weeks but will probably do it tomorrow just in case. I want him to be officially MINE! Grin

Also going to get him insured tomorrow.

Thanks Cozie. Smile

I can't tell you how exciting it was to go down the cat aisle in the supermarket today and actually look at things properly because I have a cat. I may have picked him up some Dreamies...

7 isn't old! He's in his prime. (Although I'll keep my fingers crossed that the insurance companies agree.)

I can see I'm getting the evasive answer you rehearsed for your DH. Grin

(I'm trying to remember how many flavours they stock.)

Ha! You've got me all figured out!

They have loads more flavours than I expected...and ones that do this and do that for health issues. I never thought buying Dreamies would be so complicated! A complication I am very happy to add to my life, mind! Smile

So lovely that this pussy cat has found a loving new home. I hate to see more "mature" cats languishing in rescue centres because everyone wants a kitten. Good on you saga!

Enjoy your cat, Saga. Lucky boy.

We have some animals insured with Petplan, but for our cats went for Tesco because it was cheap. It is cheap. Unfortunately all the cats have ended up with health problems, some embarrassingly expensive, and so far Tesco have paid up fully and without quibbling. I don't know what happens long-term (I know Petplan insure continuing conditions for life) but if PP is too expensive it might be worth reading the Tesco small print.

P.S. I still don't like Tesco though!
