I can't wait until Saturday!

I've wanted to get a cat for YEARS.

DP finally gave in a few months ago. We went to the local rescue centre, fell in love with a HUGE black and white boy cat, had our home visit, and I've just had the phone call to tell me to pick him up Saturday afternoon!

I've bored everyone to death with cat talk so now I'm telling you. I can't wait to get him home.

Oh yes, I've spent a small fortune.

He now has his own cupboard because there is so much stuff. But he's been in the rescue for quite a while so I think he deserves it.

I've seen you both posting regularly on the cat threads, have you had any experience with the congregated cardboard scratchers?

I've got one, you sprinkle dried catnip on it and he really likes it.

It slips on the carpet when he uses it so he rests his back paw on it to keep it stable.

My cats have all used carpet samples or old pieces of upholstered furniture, Walking. (I currently have the most disreputable chair downstairs which the family are itching to get rid of. Thank God for throws.)

PS - how long has he been in the rescue for?

Well fluffy, you've convinced me. Sounds like you've got a smart cat. I suppose they can't be very heavy to keep them stable.

They did tell me how long he's been in but I can't remember. He's their longest cat resident though poor thing.

Only one more day to go now though!

Black and white and black cats tend to 'linger' in rescues so I wondered. Poor lad.

I don't understand it tbh. Most of the cats there were black and white but personally, they are my favourite. I think the fact he was so big put people off too maybe.

I know what you mean cosie, I hated having to leave him there once we had 'reserved' him. He must think that's his home now.

Strange isn't it? I'll confess to having a bit of a thing for ginger toms - and my personal cats are always Siamese - but really, once I know a cat, I don't 'see' their colour most of the time, just their personality.

Yet black and black and white cats are not popular just for their colour.

You might have to be a bit patient once you get him home. Much will depend on him but I suspect that he might find it a little difficult to relax and trust after spending a long time in a rescue. Who can tell.

You'd think with them being used on a big brand cat food would help.

Also on some newer bags of litter etc. I think that that's fairly recent though - my memory is that it used to be either gingers or BSH types? Maybe there's been some lobbying by the cat groups.

Oh yeah Felix is a black and
White cat. I really don't understand it.

There's a door between our kitchen and living room. The plan is to put the open cat carrier under the kitchen table and leave him to come out by himself.

We've put a stair gate up on the kitchen/living room doorway so the DC can't go in. So he will be able to hear us and come in if he wants to but can also escape.

Does that sound okay? Obviously litter tray, water, scratching board, toys and food will be in the kitchen with him.

We'll probably send the DC up to their GPs for the first hour or two.

Sounds fine - although like most plans, it might not survive him actually arriving so you may have to think flexibly.

How old are the DCs again?

They are 3 and 1 which makes things a bit difficult.

DP is working this morning so it's going to be a long morning waiting for him to get in!

Rescue cats are awesome. They're always grateful to have a lovely home

We'll his first day went well. He meowed (loudly) all the way home but as soon as I opened the carrier, he was out purring and rubbing up against me. He then decided to inspect the house and came back for more stokes. he's so so friendly.

The only down side is the fact he's scared of DS (the one year old)
DS wasn't here yesterday when we picked the cat up, and the cat was fine, but today he's been hiding under the table and not come out because of DS. DS gets really excited and loud when he sees him which scares the cat. Obviously I'm not letting DS touch him and I'm not letting DS go in the kitchen. I know they'll get used to each other, I'm just feeling bad for the cat at the moment.
